Free Sky Movies weekend coming on 29th October. Full details below.
Viewers are actually only getting 1 free movie channel though (Sky Showcase) which is on Sky Channel 303.
SKY MOVIES FREE WEEKEND
For one weekend, customers who don’t currently subscribe to Sky Movies can enjoy a superb selection of the great films on offer, for free! Featuring a wide variety of titles, the weekend includes family treats like Coraline, Bedtime Stories and Race to Witch Mountain (2009), as well as some cracking comedy with Role Models and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Other top titles include Confessions of a Shopaholic, Gran Torino and Seven Pounds. Plus, don’t miss a trio of ace animations courtesy of Disney Cinemagic HD, including the brilliant Bolt.
Sky Movies Free Weekend will be available to customers on Sky, Virgin Media, UPC, Velocity 1, Small World and Magnet.
From Friday 29 October – Sunday 1 November,
Sky Movies Showcase/HD
Its not the best movie deal ever, but there are some decent movies in there including Clint Eastwood's excellent Gran Torino for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Enjoy.

Hello,
Does anyone know, if we record them on our Sky+ boxes, can you still view them at a later date, or will they not work, like when you end your subscription to the film channels?!?0 -

As geri said, it won't work on the sky+ box when you no longer have sky movies, but if you have a dvd recorder or vhs even, record it onto that and watch it whenever you want. We still have dvds with unwatched sky movies, and we canceled the movies account long ago, lol.
The one pain is if it's a film that requires a pin code to watch (based on rating level) you need to be there when the recording starts so you can input your pin code -- if you record on the sky box you could just input it later, but if you're recording some other way you'll just get two hours of a screen asking for your pin code if you don't enter it at the start!0 -
Here's a complete list of all movies on Sky Movies Showcase during the 3 day period. You can find the times for yourself on your Sky+ box nearer the time.
Most movies are shown twice a day.

As with the recent free ESPN sports weekend, Sky seem to have dumbed down Showcase with a few older movies - King Arthur, Nutty Professor 2 etc and some rather dodgy kids movies.
Here's the best of the bunch IMO:
Righteous Kill
Seven Pounds
Gran Torino
Role Models
Stone of Destiny0 -
I've read before about recording on the channel prior to the free days and then watching while the channel is free. Does anyone know if this actually works?0

Glad to see that this offer is available for Virginmedia customers, which I am one of. I will just use my V+ box to record and hopefully watch the films anytime. I can't see any reason why I won't be able to do this. I had Sky Sports programmes a dew months ago before I cancelled them with Virginmedia. I can still watch the Sky Sports events, which I recorded on my V+ box, without any probs. There must be a differance with the way V+ and SKY+ boxes function.
It does make a mockery of the recent digital recording bill though. People just record films from TV and keep their favourite ones. Likewise people record music from TV, friends, library, radio, downloads from the web, etc. I'm not complaining but I just don't see the point of the digital bill. It will also be very interesting to see whether anyone will be taken to court as a result of this bill.
I know that the distributor of the Hurt Locker (great film !) was taking legal action in the USA against people that had illegally downloaded the film but the consenus in the legal fraternity was that they wouldn't win the case.
It was also interesting to note that ACS Law have never taken legal action in the UK against anyone for downloading films or music.
Thanks OP.:)0 -

If they use the same method as before, you can record them and watch after the free weekend as Sky actually change the encryption level for the broadcast rather than the channel. It's not the same as subscribing to the channel and then cancelling the subscription as this changes your smartcard.0 -

I recorded some films last year on sky+ when they did the same thing, I was able to watch the films after the weekend.
The only problem I had was that I recorded a film which started at 6pm on the friday but it didn't work when I tried to watch it because it started recording before 6.LBM September 2012Debt at LBM £10,573.00Current debt £3,250 (29/12/20)Current savings £4,950 (29/12/20)0 -
