Weezl, you may be our Grocery challenge hero, but I just couldn't cook a pig's head. You are much, much braver than me - I don't even eat black pudding or burgers. However, I did like the way you pointed out piggy's little teeth in the photos. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.

Storecupboard VEGGIE soup ie NO PIG

yeah nykmedia, the teeth were the bit I really didn't like! Even shaving off his eyebrows was fine!
Verdict on the dinner. A success, but not an unqualified one. I don't think I roasted him for long enough, so the other half head is still in now on a low heat. This meant he was more like belly pork still with streaks of fat through. Ideally I'd have rendered this down for slightly longer.
The crackling was great, crispy and tasty after the salt sugar chilli and pepper rub.:T
We had him with mash, sweetcorn (odd I know but I didn't want to buy veg in for something we might hate! I will for next time though...) and lovely redwine gravy:j
The snout was nice, I ate it, mr Weezl wouldn't. It tasted exactly like those american hot dog sausages in a can, uncannily so, in fact I think that's what they make them out of. We ate loads of meat, and there's still another half head roasting away.
So many meals and possibilities. I'm going to boil the half head carcass down for stock in my slo-cooker, once the sweet and sour trotters have finished in there.:D
I'm super unimpressed with the amount of tasty usable meat that routinely butchers in the UK throw out.
I think dinner was 10p each.:money:
RIP piggy, you did well, and we salute you.
Weezl x

I don't like crackling either, so there'd still be quite a bit go to waste even if I could bring myself to [STRIKE]buy[/STRIKE] scrounge a head from a willing butcher
And I've never used a razor in my life, so don't know how I'd have even managed to start prepping it
But I'm pleased to see it seems to have gone down well -- shall watch out for you posting tomorrow to check you're still around and wellCheryl0 -
OH just told me there's half a pigs head in our freezer  (the one in the garage where he stores all the meat !)
He might well be asking me to scroll through your recipes weezl :eek:Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
