Thanks for the input everyone.
I've got my delivery for this week. I've taken a piccie so I'll post that later. There's loads of spinach and broccoli so I was thinking of changing my plan a little. We have a huge flan dish so I was thinking of making a flan/quiche. If anyone has any tips or ideas that would be great. I am not sure I've ever used the dish.:oMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

3 small onions
Butter to fry
8oz green or brown lentils - cooked
1 clove garlic
3rd jar of passata or 1 tin chopped tomatoes
Chopped mushrooms, carrots or celery (optional)
Flavourings
Enough mash to cover - approx 1 and a half lbs of potatoes.
Fry onions in butter till soft and add garlic for a further minute. Add flavourings of choice with passata and drained lentils. (Save the stock from the lentils to use in soup if you like.)
If you want it to be warming, you could use spices, but for spring, I like dried herbs, a bay leaf, maybe some brown sauce or Henderson's relish.
Let it simmer down until thick. Place in an ovenproof dish. (I'll measure ours and let you know the size.) Top with the mash and bake at gas mark 6/200 degrees for 40 minutes.
You can add chopped mushrooms with the onions, or celery chopped finely. I haven't tried it with carrots in the mix but I think that would be nice too.
Our dish is a pyrex one, 11" by 7" by 2". It's exactly the right size.
This sounds lovely, one for me next week. Thanks.:T0 -
From last week's list. here's the curry.
3 medium carrots, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
5 sticks celery, chopped and de-stringed
1 tin chickpeas
3rd jar passata
garlic and spices or curry paste
a little water (slightly less water than passata.)
Just bung it all in the slow cooker, give it a stir and cook on high for about 4 hours. Doddle!
Tip:
I reheated the leftovers with some tomato puree, a large spoonful of aubergine pickle and quarter of a can of value baked beans, rinsed and drained.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
2.5 cups sr flour
1.25 cups milk
cup sugar
1 cup 'ingredient' (eg fruit/choc chips)
1 egg
90g butter
Sieve flour into largish bowl and rub in butter. Add sugar and 'ingredient'. Add milk and lightly beaten egg and stir loosely. 200 degrees for 20 mins for medium muffins.
We like chocolate chips and glace cherries.
I don't think you need to be very precise with the measuring as long as you use the same size cup to measure it. We use a plastic toddler training mug. *The kind with a spout in the lid.)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Can I ask a daft question please?
what are brown lentils? Have they another name? I ask because i have managed to buy some green lentils (called lentils vertes) and I have orange/red lentils in anyway for soups. But there was nothing labelled as "brown lentils" nor anything on the shelves that looked like brown lentils.
Can anyone help please? I really fancy making the lentil lasagne.0 -
Not a daft question. They're also called Puy lentils and here's a picture comparing the red, green and brown/puy lentils. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:3_types_of_lentil.jpgMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

In general, green and brown lentils are good substitutes for each other. They hold their shape well and have a similar texture whereas the red ones mush up quickly and are ideal for soups.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

If you didn't want to make a flan, you could make broccoli mornay with the broccoli. Just fry some onions, put in the bottom of an ovenproof dish, put a layer of tinned chopped tomatoes on top of the broccoli and then a layer of bechamel sauce on top of that. Grate some cheese on top, and bake in the oven until the top is golden and bubbling.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170
