If like me you have a stack of leisure vouchers saved up from redeeming piggy points, planning to use them all on a super duper meal out later in the year - GET SPENDING! I've just found this on a promotions trade website
The voucher market continues to thrive despite the announcement that Whitbread is to close its Leisure Vouchers operation, according to its sales and marketing director.

Murray Leslie, who has managed the voucher business for the past two years, said: “Whitbread has made this decision based on its own strategic plans for the future and it in no way reflects the performance of the voucher market, or indeed Leisure Vouchers within it."

Whitbread announced on March 2 that it intended to close Leisure Vouchers which it set up 16 years ago to drive incremental sales into a broad range of Whitbread brands.

As part of Whitbread’s strategic transformation, the company has sold a number of businesses in recent years including Thresher, Marriott, Pizza Hut, TGI Friday’s and 235 of its pub restaurants.

The group said that these changes had signalled a downturn in incremental profits for Whitbread and meant that Leisure Vouchers was no longer core to the business.

Leslie said: “I would like to reassure all customers, suppliers and partners that Leisure Vouchers will fulfil all contractual obligations.

“We will continue to sell Leisure Vouchers to existing clients until all customers have sourced alternative suppliers. All vouchers can still be spent in exactly the same way."

Leslie is also chairman of the VA, the trade body for the UK's £3billion voucher, gift card and stored-value solutions market.

Over the past few years, Leisure Vouchers had seen a huge growth in the number of partners accepting Leisure Vouchers, reaching over 50 redeeming partners last year. They were predominantly non-Whitbread brands, particularly after the group's restructuring.

Partners include Thomas Cook, Keith Prowse, English Heritage, Red Letter Days, Sea Life Centres, Beefeater, Brewers Fayre, TGI Friday's, Costa, Chessington World of Adventures, Alton Towers and Madame Tussauds.

There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word which means more to me than any other. That word is England.
