someone mentioned the winner was of french cottage was a french woman! there's some info on previous winners - and supposed winners (and history abt how unwilling daily mail has always been to publicize winners of their big comps in the game over forum
link is here

The winner on the DM site is from the 2009 comp. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/prmts/article-1201650/Look-won-beautiful-2009-French-holiday-home.html This wasn't a French woman though, and the cash alternative was £100,000. They announced it about 4 months later than stated in the T & C.
They dont seem to have announced the winner of the one that ended in May http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1258638/Win-house-France-75-000-cash.html. I did email them but they didn't bother to reply.0 -

range-style cooker = electric hob + double ovens. I wouldn't want a range cooker = Aga. Electric suits me perfectly, although (if I won) I might change the hob for a ceramic. The cooking properties in terms of heating up and retaining heat are the same as an aga, but without the hassle and expense of having an aga running all day.0

Surely this is not the same property. The Daily mail cottage says it has a range cooker in the kitchen. The one up for sale does not.
Definitely the same property, the kitchen pictures are identical! The garden has changed a bit but evidently the same tree on the lawn and tall conifers!0 -
