But microwaves don't do the nice crispy, crunchy skins. I understand slow-cookers do.

I'm feeling a bit better now and have decided to wait until I see a cooker going cheap at a car boot or something.

MATH you might be able to pick up a slow cooker for free via www.freecycle.org - they ask that your first post is to offer something for free, but your second post could be to ask for a slow cooker someone else no longer wants.

    Hope that helps.

I'm on the email list of the Bristol Freecycle group. Someone has just posted asking for a food processor that someone may have been given but do not use, so its a great idea to ask for a slow cooker. :)

How odd, I left spaces between the paragraphs in the above post, and all but one have disappeared. I even bumped one down again as it had closed up while I was still typing.

Techie.........!!! (test - this line should be on a new paragraph).

I'm giving meatballs a go today.

Mince, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cheese, egg all mashed together and made into lots of little balls. put in the bottom of the cooker. Tin toms , ice cube of red wine and some basil all poured over. It's cooking at the min and it smells divine (if a little garlicy). It's made loads and so they'll be some to freeze too.

How did these turn out Galtizz? Wouldnt mind trying this myself. Also, what do you serve it with?

Having been inspired by Galtizz, I have meatballs in my slow cooker as well!

Huband and one daughter can have them with baked potato (in microwave)
Other two daughters can have them with rice and I am thinking of having mine with a bit of pasta but have not decided yet.:):):)

heres one i think sounds great, i havent tried it yet, but it sounds great

    Italian Chicken

1 frying chicken, cut into pieces
    1 teaspoon seasoned salt
    1/4 cup flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon pepper
    2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
    1/2 cup chicken stock
    1 can mushrooms, drained
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
    zucchini, sliced into medium pieces
    freshly ground black pepper
    parsley to garnish

Sprinkle chicken with seasoned salt. Combine flour, salt, pepper, cheese,
and paprika. Coat chicken pieces with mixture. Place zucchini in bottom of
Crockpot. Pour stock over zucchini. Arrange chicken on top. Cover and cook
on low for 6 to 8 hours or until tender. Turn control to high, add
mushrooms, cover, and cook on high for another 10−15 minutes. Garnish
with freshly ground black pepper and parsley.

i think you could alter recipe to taste!!
for those that arent sure (just incase) zucchini is courgette :p
