How Far Back Do Employers Check When Employing Someone?

Savvy-Sue, I've just re-read the post and agree with you. Now I am a little confused. Maybe Hesty needs to look at any work/training chronologically and this may help with references.0

They want more than one reference (which I can provide from University and elsewhere).
It says on the application form; "Please give the names of at least two persons who are able to comment on your suitability for this post. One must be you present or last emplyer".
However, I'm not sure that Morrisons will provide a reference so long after I left. Now I'm not so sure what to do.
If your most recent position was that of a full time university student, it will be a reference from the university that they will be seeking.
Up to you who you decide to give as a second referee. Whoever it is, ensure you have their prior permission to grant you such a reference.
(Theoretically, you should also get the permission of the University referee but they will be used to such requests so I wouldn't worry too much over them)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I doubt Morrisons can provide a meaningful reference at this stage, unless you know the manager you worked for previously and can still get in touch with them. No point IMO having a 'Hesty worked for the company from x date to y date' reference, and that's all you're likely to get at this stage without that personal contact.
I had to reference someone from Morrisons once.
I think they just gave the dates if anything at all.Not Again0
