Don't forget marzipan - you could make marzipan fruits and put in little petit four cases and then into box. Boxes are 20p from your local sugarcraft shop if you have one.
  • That sounds good Tiff..I'm going off to have a peep at the website.

    Thanks

We used to make the peppermints when I was a kid and they were great! Saved loads of money giving old relatives home-made sweets! What a trip down memorylane - I can still taste them

  • Has anyone got a recipe for violet creams? I know a couple of people who would love these for Christmas but Google isn't being very friendly.....
  • If it's any use to anyone for ideas, we do a sweet treat gift basket for our families every couple of years and these are the types of things we do.

Generally it includes gingerbread biscuit shapes (stars, hearts etc) - can be bushed with chocolate for added effect, rum balls, shortbread, peppermint sugar mice - same as for peppermint creams but put in a drop or two of pink food colouring, chopped up string for tails and silver balls (forgot the technical term) for eyes. Also have done florentines, small Christmas cakes, mince pies, vanilla crescents, White Christmas (Australian recipe wihc requires copha, a coconut baased solid fat) etc. Vary it a bit each year depending on time, cost of ingredients etc.
  • Hi Ruby,

I think you might be able to make the violet creams the same as the peppermint cream only subsitute the peppermint essence with violet essence from here:

    Hello Peeps,

Just got a truffle question, these are totally different to the ones I usually make so not sure, I was going to make some yesterday and went to get the cocolate and it was 50% cocoa solids in the stuff I was looking at,(scotblock, did't want to spend twice as much on the fancy stuff without checking first)is this ok or is it not worth the bother?xxx
