    1. I do not know about 1000 texts, but my friend, PHD student, who came to the UK a few months ago and has poor credit history was refused by OSPS (they claimed it was Orange's decicion) when trying to order free phone with free 200x12 month minutes (when this offer was available). :(

    2. OSPS do claim to pay £20 for recommending a friend (see link on their home page). However, you must work hard to use this opportunity. I submitted the online form to recommend my friend. Although they promise 'an advisor will contact your referee.. ', nobody contacted my friend for a week! I called them myself and was given some reference nomber that my friend can use to buy phone by telephone. This reference number cannot be used for online purchase, he cannot use cashback sites. I have not got my £20 yet as they promise to pay me only after my frend pays his first bill. :):(

    Hi,

It's 10 months now, not 12. It seems that the best offers are over at OSPS now...

    I managed to get a K500i with 100 xnet mins a month for 12 months free :)

    David
What shall I put here?

    Free phone, free line rental.

Which bit isn't free, there has to be something...? %-)

This offer was widely discussed here. Try to search.
    Yes, everything is free, but…

They promise to refund line rental in a few portions, for example, £75 after 4 months + £120 after 8 months + £120 after 12 months. This example is for OVP Voda 200 tariff with 3 months ½, which was available until middle of Jan.
In order to receive this ‘cashbacks’ you must claim them by sending copies of recent invoices 3 times - after 4, 8 and 12 months of being connected within 45-day period.

You receive all T&C with phone and have 14 days 'Cooling-Off Period'.

Pitfall – you must be very organized and disciplined. It is also worth using recorded mail.
Risk – a probability does exist that OSPS can go burst. In this case you still have contract with Orange and pay monthly rental to Orange, but nobody pays you ‘cashback’.
This information is from the OSPS site:

One Stop Phone Shop, established in 1995, has quickly become the UK's leading mail order mobile phone specialist. We have direct relationships with all 5 of the major UK networks,'3', O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile, an achievement not many dealers accomplish and more importantly, maintain. Only by keeping these direct relationships can we offer you the the very best deals. Anyone connecting through a distributor will undoubtedly have to increase their prices to allow for the middle man.
In recognition of this fact we were awarded the prestigious 'Orange Direct Response Dealer of the year 2001' award, a statement of our continued commitment to providing our customers with service and value second to none. We have maintained this throughout 2002 and 2003, remaining Oranges' largest Direct Response dealer, supplying thousands of satisfied customers every single month.

Add. Information: you can switch to cheaper contract with Orange after 6 months – this does not affect the amount of cashback you receive from OSPS.

Chose for yourself whether the game is worth the candle...
  • Thanks for the info Grumbler, looks interesting.
