My lovely partner in all his wisdom has made a pond in the garden.
He then decided would be nice to have a rockery around it.
I need rocks, is it illegal to take them from the beach ? Garden centres want a fortune :eek:
Also rockery plants, wheres the cheapest, I don't even know what to buy
Any help appreciated

Hi Lil me, I went to my local quarry in Somerset for some rocks and asked for 12 they asked if I wanted 12 lorry loads or 12 tons, I said no just 12 for my rockery, they laughed at me and then said I could have them free as it was the best laugh they had ever had. So worth trying to find the nearest quarry. Hope this helps.0

Hi, I am afraid it is most definately not lawful to take pebbles/rocks from a beach. Hope you find them somewhere else cheaply.0

Depending on where you live you might want visit your local farmer - our local chap ploughs up loads of stones and is only too happy for them to be taken for rockeries, walls, etc.! Visit to quarry is next best bet.I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

just get em from the beach, is it also illegal for kids to take shells home , for gods sake wyndym have a word with yourself0

Yes it is illegal to take stones from the beach.... but not exactly the crime of the century. I was helping my dad collect a few stones from the beach to help irrigate a section of our garden and an "off duty cop" told us off. But of course when he disappeared we just continued. Go to your local beach wont be a problem.0

The other place to look is any big building site. When they're doing the foundations, they always turn up the odd pebble or thousand!0

I never thought of farms, we're surrounded by fields, I think a holiday day hunting for big stones might be in order
I thought it was illegal to take them from the beach but also couldn't find anything about it, oh well worth asking as would have been easier.
