I was lucky (:rolleyes:) in that I got an insurance payout of over £10k towards the beginning, following my diagnosis with multiple sclerosis. I got another £1500 or so in payouts from my private medical insurance for being treated in NHS hospitals rather than privately. All of this went to my debt, when I would desperately have loved to spend it (mainly on things to help with my disabilities) - but hey, the debt is more important.
I was on a very good wage before I stopped working, so was able to pay fairly sizeable chunks off each month for a while, until I was told that I could no longer work because of the MS, and am not likely to be able to go back to it. Luckily, my employer has a permanent health insurance policy that now pays 75% of my salary, so I still have an income, albeit a reduced one.
Other than that, I cut everything back to the very bare minimum. Clearing my debt is my single biggest priority, I don't spend a single penny more than I absolutely have to - and I only watch 5 tv channelsI get more satisfaction from clearing an extra couple of quid from my debt than I do from spending a couple of quid on a 'treat' for myself - I guess I just like seeing those numbers come down! :rotfl:
Of course you can do it, you just need to accept that you do have to make sacrifices, and that it won't always be easy! The first few months are always the hardest, I bet you feel more positive about clearing it in a few months, once it has all settled down!Highest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300Debt Free - August 2006!!

Yeah, I don't think lucky is the right word. But well done anyway, you should be a shining example to the millions in debt.0

Has anyone had any joy with claiming back bank charges such as overdraft fees, returned direct debits?0

you don't need to pay 20 for a freesat card as long as you are out of the contract period, when you cancel, your card becomes a freesat card.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

does it? anyone confirm this?0

Just put in a request for a water meter to be put in, thing is I rent, so I think the landlords may be a bit unhappy about it.0

Also put in my payplan request. It says that I have £750 left over to pay my debts. So when I worked this out it leaves me with:
Loans = £309
Catalogue = £200
Which leaves around £241 for two credit cards.
Which is more than what I thought I would have available. It really suprised me.0
