Yesssss! I have enough sausages, and a couple of packs of batter mix (only need 1 today). So it looks like TITH for the blokes, and bangers and jacket for me -- with gravy and veg for all of us.
Have also found an assortment of odd burgers (they generally come in packs of 4, but I'm normally only cooking for 3!), so will probably do them on Thursday or Friday.
So just need to finding something for tomorrow and the other day I don't do burgers nowCheryl0 -

I made a self crusting quiche the other day, using this recipe and adding a mix of veges
3 eggs
1.5 cups milk
1/2 cup self raising flour (or half cup plain and 1/2 tsp baking powder)
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup grated cheese (could mix this in or spread on top, or leave out)
Whisk eggs and milk, add flour and salt/pepper and cheese if using. Mix in your choices of:
-Meat (either leftovers, eg, chicken etc, or some bacon/ham/tuna etc)
-Veges (some good ones are drained whole kernel corn, diced onion, some grated carrot, some washed and torn spinach or silverbeet, some leftover cold cubed veges such as pototo, pumpkin, etc)
It says to cook "Pour into greased quiche dish or baking dish and cook 1 hour at 300 o F or 150 o C ." I just used my judgement for cooking.
Thought it was pretty good, use your judgement with the additions, but the more you added the more it seemed to stretch the basic mix. By the way, this made four pretty big serves with the additions. Good way to use up leftovers too, and it was GREAT for lunch cold the next day.
For fussy kids, make in several smaller dishes lol and they can put in their own fav combos....:rotfl:"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -

My runner beans never even get to the chutney stage as we scoff em as soon as picked.:rotfl: I love the cheapo curry sauce, is it wrong to crave?:rotfl: Have got enough jars to make ale chutney at the weekend, not sure though when to add the ale..at the beginning with the apples or at the end for a kick..any suggestions?Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

While I am thinking about fussy kids and frugal food...
The other day I had mince out and didn't know what to do with it, so I put about a fist sized piece in a bowl, and added an egg, and a handful of oats, and some pepper, some weetbix crumbs, and a grated onion and mixed it together (bulked it out nicely!! :T ) This fed two of us, plus I had leftovers for lunch next day, just extend recipe to suit your needs.
Then I cut up some cheese into small cubes and rolled each cube into the centre of a small mince ball and rolled each of the mince balls in some crumbed crackers (could use bread crumbs, just using up what I had) and then put them on grilling rack and grilled them. Mum used to roll our meat balls in seasame seeds, which is nice too.
My son thought they were awesome. Cheese bubbles out a bit, but added to charm and they did have cheesy middles."Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -
Morning frugalistas (and frugalistos)!
I have been laid up with the flu for the last 4 days but it has been a lesson in the benefits of OS. Only once did I have to hobble to the corner shop (for orange juice, which I almost never drink).
My son gets orange juice, premium stuff (I get whichever is on special still lol) when he has a cold, probably be one of those strange things you remember, we were always allowed lemonade when we had sore tummies, and it was the only time we had it...;)"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -
Our council give us bin bags doesn't anybody elses? Just wondered on a bit of straw pole what sort of age everyone is . Start the ball rolling 42 and a very grumpy old git as opposed to the slightly younger grumpy git I used to be!0

Morning all
All this talk of sausages... I have to make a couple of big batches next month as we are down to about 6  -just need to clear some room in the freezer first -wish me luck :rotfl:
Dinner last nigth was liver, onions n carrots with mash, nobbies and cabbage nommy -there was too much cabbage and liver casserole-so i have had that for my lunch
Hubby has requested tortilla wraps tonight -so i will knock some dough together later.. need to get the bread in the oven and roast off yet more tomatoes whilst the oven is on
I have quite a lot of milk that I want to use up so Im going to make a HUGE rice pudding and stick it in the fridge -then I can just warm a bowl up with some of the stewed apple n blackberries when i fancy something sweet and comforting -thats my excuse and im sticking to it
I have fetched off most of my peppers -still green -but i will slice and freeze em (once i make a gap in the freezer)..oooh i will use some up tonight with the gyros meat and onions in the wraps -im doing coleslaw to go with them -well I do have 10lb of cabbage to use :rotfl:
right I had better get back to my sorting..then my knitting :T -have a great day everyone
Patchworkcat -out here we get given see through yellow bin bags for the recycling stuff... Im trying to accumulate as many as possible to bring back to use when im in the UK for good lol....ooh and im 36.... 37 in December eekkk-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
The Dutch tend to eat quite simple meals. especially in winter time.
Favorites are What we call: Stamppot.
A few favs in this house:
Peel as many tatties as you need for your family. Boil them and add salt to taste.
Fry bits of bacon until crisp. (optional)
Cut an Andive into smallish bits.
When tatties are cooked, mash with some milk or butter to make it smooth.
Toss in the andive and the bacon.
Give it a good stir and serve with Gravy.
I really like this variety as I can't stand cooked andive!!.. this way the veg stays nice and crisp in the mash. lovely!!
(but not good for waistline due to overload of gravy!!)
HUTSPOT is another favorite.
Again tatties, peeled.
add about half the amount of tatties in Carrots and sliced onions. (onions and carrots about the same amount)
Boil until tender.
Mash
Serve with sausage or bacon if you wish..
add gravy on plate...
You can also do this with cabbage, green beens, white beans or Brussels sprouts. (pretty much any veg you fancy.)
A good cabbage recipe is "rode kool met appeltjes"
Red cabbage sliced
some apples, peeled and cubed
some applesauce.
Bang the whole lot in a pan, boil until soft.
Add salt and maybe a pinch of sugar to taste.
Kids are quite fond of it due to the applesauce taste.
