With regards to the car thing - I don't want to panic the OP, and only post this to show how bad it *can* be (I'm a very optimistic person, but like to think the worst so that I am then pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen, and am not shocked if the worst does happen, which it usually doesn't
).
My OR got my car valued by his own auction house valuers, and I had the car valued by three independent garages before to find out how much it was worth, as it was in Very Very Very poor condition - I think this is why he had a valuer look at it rather than use Parkers. None of the valuers would put a price on the car, including the OR's person, saying they simply couldn't sell it - one of the garages I went to grudgingly suggested about £30-40 for it. However, despite me needing the car for work the OR told me he was going to take it. There was a bit of a complication in that I also have cherished number plates, but these aren't worth very much apparently, and I settled the matter for £200 in the end, but am still awaiting confirmation that the car is mine to keep (purchased by a third party on my behalf - my partner), So what they use for valuation tends to vary (although Parkers is a good start if you have no idea) and what they will allow you to keep or not is also a varied matter depending on how human your OR is.
I'm repeating btw that I'm not saying any of this to scare anyone (although BR is scary imho anyway) but just to show that it really is pot luck and until you petition and have your interview you might not know. Had my car situation carried on though I would have gone to court over it, but in the end I was tired of fighting and £200 for the plates I felt wasn't too bad considering if I had a judge on a bad day he/she could rule that I should pay a lot more for them and the car, so it was better the devil you know I thought.
Good luck with what you decide, but definitely go and get advice/chat it through with CCCS or similar.Do not feed the trolls please.0 -
