    I've just booked flights with BA and then noticed their Price Promise. So, I did a little bit more digging and actually found a cheapr flight, like for like, with American Airlines. Same flights across the board - it appears that AA are selling BA flights cheaper than BA are selling BA flights for

    So, I'm quids in here I thought!!!

    I filled in the form, sent them screen dumps and smugly sat back to wait for their response.
    And back it came...I excitedly opend their email to find they had dismissed my claim! Huh ???
    The reason that they gave me was that AA could have sold me the same seat, on the same plane but under a different selling class. So, for example, because BA sold me a seat under class M in econmy and AA could have sold me exactly the same seat but under selling class P, they dismissed the claim!!! Arghhhhhhhhh............... the goddam whole thing is exactly the same bar the selling class. xxx

    At the end of the day, the same seats are being sold cheaper somewhere else and BA managed to wriggle out of the refund on a technicality - I was gutted. It taught me a lesson - I won't be quite so loyal in future.

    Anyone else who looks at the Price Promise, please pay extra attention to the flight selling class.

    What is the difference in the class of seats, ie refunds, name change etc. I guess that is why they refused it.

    I'm not sure.
    I looked on the site but only found a general explanation however, I did ask the author of the BA email for an explanation of the difference betwen the classes.

    I also tried to claim once when the same flight was cheaper with airline network but they declined my claim with a lot of blah about airline network not being part of BA ????
    I think they will always find a back door as do many other people with price match guarantees

    Yup, i found exactly the same flight somewhere else, just 300 cheaper. Sent all the screen dumps ect. Played email ping pong with them for a while as they kept asking for a screen shot of a "fare rules" page. Talked to the other airline, seems they dont impose any rules over those imposed by BA themselves.

    Explained this to there "price promise" department and they just asked for a screen shot of a "fare rules" page again... Eventually they declined my claim, saying the "fare rules" were differnet. They have declined to explain what is apprently different about them.

    lesson from all this:
    DONT COUNT ON BA's PRICE PROMISE!

    Different Airlines have different fare classes.

    A standard non discounted economy fare is a Y Class over the whole of the airline industry.

    the class - T or U are normally the cheapest discounted and most restrictive fares.

    the main difference between them, is changing the tickets, dates, times etc, and refunds. Now I realise that not a lot are refundable, but some may let you change the ticket for a fee, the others will not let you change the ticket at all, or others, the fee might be higher.

    Also, upgradability, on the fare class as well comes into play, mainly on a paid for upgrade, at the airport. On some fare classes, you cannot upgrade, no matter how much you want to pay, on others, it is one fee, on a third it is something else..

    very complex, but airline fares are complex..

    I just book with the airlines i like at the price i like.. and then never check the price again, and i'll always think i've had a good deal!

    I've just been misled also, i know how you feel, i booked a flight with BA knowing that i could get the same flight cheaper. After completing their online form BA said they would not honour because the terms were different with expedia. To rub salt into my wounds NWA reduced their fare on the same route, same airport the next day after i booked with BA.
    I could have saved about 140 if i had a crystal ball and waited just one day. I booked with BA direct online does anyone know how much they charge if i were to just cancell and go with NWA? ps i'm booking for a party and feel really awful about BA's response.

    why do people check the price with

    a) other airlines
    b) after they've booked and paid

    i don't get it..

    you are obviously happy paying the price you paid, so therefore just wait and enjoy your holiday, why go checking the price again???
