    20 20s for 2020

    20 20s for 2020 3rd Dec 19 at 9:34 AM
December. The end of the year and this time, a decade. And for some reason itís got me thinking. We (well a lot of my friends) spend so much energy beating ourselves up about lack of achievement, yo-yo dieting, overspending and can miss out on so much of the small stuff.

With this in mind Iím creating a list of 20 20s to mark the year.

The plan is to maximise my cheap gym membership (unlimited swimming and unlimited classes for £45 a year); remembering to relax, spending time people I love. And appreciate them more.
And do all of the 20s with minimal but also planned spending.

So far on my list I have
    Swim 20 miles
Watch 20 new to me films
    Read 20 books
    Go for 20 walks
    Make 20 new meals
    Have 20 date nights
De clutter 20 items a month
Make 20 squares for cat blankets
    20 bike rides
    20 yoga classes
    20 lazy days
    Enjoy 20 cakes.
20 topless drives (my car is an old convertible and I need to remember to seize the day more often a drive lid free!)

But I need more to get to the 20. Any ideas that wonít cost a fortune. Thereís just me & Him & 2 fluffballs at home.

Am open to new ideas - itís a new decade after all!
I do not make mistakes, I learn lessons.
I work to live, not live to work.
I love to live & live to love.
    Good enough is exactly that.

    Struggling somewhat with mine.
Meditation time feels 'hard to come by' but fact is I'm not making it a priority, too much time being 'basic'....

Still so many days left in the year to make the changes so wont berate myself about it anymore, but will resolve to do better.

A slow start from me but I have been to one new place, met up with one long-standing friend and attended one social event in the last week. It is too cold for me really to get going with my main outdoor stuff. Also plodding along with non-meat meals - mostly simple fare

oo Nathalia i like your #2. I was lucky enough to go to Raffles last week for afternoon tea. My boss and I decided not to have the champagne and yet when the waiter came and asked we both said yes. Well I do think it's the only time i'll ever have afternoon tea at Raffles. And yes it was lovely, so I have adapted your #2 for my #7

Oh drat! I should have added 'smuggle myself into Dundeedoll's suitcase/trunk ' on my list (although I'd only need to do that once!!!!)

I lived in Singapore for a couple of years back in the '60s...and have happy memories of the very rare treat of going to Raffles! I still remember they had THICK carpets and my little feet sank into the deep pile. Also they used to bring a plate of assorted cakes to your table and then charge for how many you ate! My elder brother saw it as a personal challenge! (he had 'hollow legs'!!)

Hope you don't mind me joining (late to the party I know ) but after reading this thread I was inspired to actually get things done this year, rather than just thinking about them!. Also, after talking to DH and 2 DD's (8 & 10) this weekend, they are also now in the process of coming up with their own 20 20's

Anyway, I've already made a start on some of mine as I had some of them as goals for the year anyway, but here's the list as it stands today:

    1. Watch 20 new to me films / documentaries - 1 / 20
    2. Read 20 books - 1 / 20
    3. Go for 20 walks over 30 mins
    4. Make 20 new meals
    5. Have 20 date nights
    6. 20 bike rides
    7. Play 20 board games - We love board games, but have built up a large selection of un-played games so the aim is to get through these before we look for any more! - 1 / 20
    8. 20 meetings with friends or family - 1 / 20
    9. 20 donations to charity / food bank
    10. Visit 20 places of interest / experiences - Not going to count holidays / weekends away as 1 or I'll cheat and count our 2 1/2 week holiday as part of this
    11. Save £2020 over the year
    12. Lose 20% of my body weight – I've worked out what 20% equates to and I'm too embarrassed to say, so I'm working on percent of achieving that! I started 2 weeks ago and I'm currently at 19.43% of goal
    13. Listen to 20 new albums on Spotify - I have a tendency to listen to the same things, or playlists so I may change this to podcasts as well as Albums (embarrassed to say I've never listened to a podcast!)
    14. Have 20 family days - Again, won't count holidays as part of this
    15. Try 20 new things
    16. Sell 20 things on ebay / booty sites
    17. Do 20 jobs around the house (that I've been putting off)
    18. Spend 20 minutes a day clearing, cleaning, organising - Thought this would be easier to count in weeks - 1 / 52 (working on making up the days missed)
    19. Build 20 Lego sets - We have a MASSIVE lego addiction / problem / collection hobby and we have at least a hundred un-built sets not little ones either, so my goal is to actually build some of these, rather than keep on buying them!
    20. Spend 20 minutes per day organising photos - I few years ago I had the idea of doing a photo book a year, but never got round to it. In a moment of madness I've committed and paid for the photo books for the past 10 years I've got 6 months to finish them, so I need to buckle down and make a start on this!

Hopefully we can all spur each other on to get things ticked off

So a third of the way through the month and it seems everyone else is doing better than I am (and I donít just mean at updating) but as this is not a completion for any of Iíd just like to say good work to everyone....hope your progress is brightening your year!

No progress to report on the good cause cake consumption - have no idea whatís going wrong at work as thereís usually a bake sale every few weeks!

Unsubscribe is now at 10 of 20
Swims 1 of 20 (over 3 separate sessions I have to add)
    Outs 1 of 20
Pamper me sessions 1 of 20
    Vegetarian Choices 3 of 20

Need to check where we are with the walks and maybe readjust what counts, given that we are daily reserve dog walkers at present. I think itís at 12 at least so far...

Possibly the most surprising to me is that I am also at 2 of 20 for £20. And they were real paper things, not just the virtual ones that I had predicted.

First food bank meal will happen this weekend as will combine it with a Tesco club card big shop voucher week.
