My pond plants have arrived so tomorrow we will try and get them in. Done some research and you can use garden soil instead of aquatic compost if it hasn’t got fertiliser in it. I plan to use the soil I dug out of the pond hole which was under gravel and before that under some concrete so there won’t be much in it. Monty Don recommends lining the mesh baskets with hessian so I’ve improvised with an old dust sheet. It was rubbish as a dust sheet as paint splodges went right through onto the floor so it should be ok for lining baskets. I only need some gravel/grit to prevent it floating away which I can get from pets at home in the fish department.

Quiet weekend planned. Might have a popcorn and dvd session with my son tomorrow and then Sunday is scarecrow trail and ice cream, no plans for Monday yet but the grass needs cutting and the weeds need defeating.

 morning MFW. Well I finally got the pond plants in last night, virtually in the dark! How was it 9:30pm by the time I’d finished? I may well do some moving about today as the last couple did just get plonked in while trying not to get my feet wet. It’s annoying me at the moment as a) the water lily has to be lowered in stages as it grows so it’s not in its final position b) I can see the planting baskets and c) I want the plants to grow NOW! Patience child patience.

Will be spending today as going on local scarecrow trail for charity which also means ice cream from the van. Also need more milk as the 6 pints I got on Wednesday won’t last. I told my boy I would get a pack of knock off weetabix (other breakfast cereals are available!) and if he was hungry he could get himself one; needless to say a lot has been eaten already :rotfl:

Thought it was going to be a very expensive day yesterday but crisis seems to have been averted. My coffee machine wasn’t working properly! I mean it’s only 10 years old and gets used everyday, they don’t make them like they use to as my dear dad would have said (whilst getting out a screwdriver and setting about mending it). Whilst I was descaling it and cleaning it all out again (although I must point out it has now been cleaned out twice since Christmas) I was investigating new ones. Although I was drawn to the charms and relatively reasonable price of one that matches my toaster I was disappointed by the lack of cash back! Anyway it seems to be better this morning, the coffee is acceptable and as I consider “lack of coffee” as an emergency the emergency fund would cover it :D. I might have to put it on my Santa list, ie. save for a new one for Christmas and hopefully there will be better TCB deals to be have for the mortgage fund.

Happy bank holiday to those lucky enough to have an extra day off. Yesterday was lovely, two nice walks, ice cream, washing on the line, little bit of gardening and then watched The BFG with my boy after tea while eating toffee popcorn. He has already planned our day today for me and tells me there is another dvd session to be had. Hoping our weather holds dry for another day as the grass needs doing and I’m going to strip the beds after breakfast so will be good to get the washing on the line again.

Got a couple of emails to send, a couple of forms to fill in, meal planning/shopping list to do and a cake to make. Pasta bake for tea tonight and my lunch tomorrow then shopping on Wednesday. Will be changing my day off (I work 30 hours a week over 4 days) from Wednesday to Friday at summer so will have a 3 day weekend every week; I’d rather have a 3 day week so that mortgage has to go. I have a payment due into my bank next Monday so small OP will be made out of that. My logic tells me to make all my available OP early in the month and savings amounts later to try and save a little bit of mortgage interest (on a daily interest rate). Was looking the other day at the rate I’ll revert to at the end of my fixed, not til October 2020 but the increase is quite shocking on such a small mortgage anyway. Lots of decision time between now and then and probably countless visits to the mortgage overpayment calculator!

Loving reading your new diary- well done on the overpayments so far!

We have a lot longer to go on our mortgage (£148.5k) so aiming for it to be gone in another 12.5years. Reading diaries really helps me stay motivated- I will subscribe to yours.

Glad to hear Hetty is doing well after the teeth removal :) they don’t half tug on the heart strings when it’s a pet!
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!

Been for a meeting at school today about learning support for my boy. I mentioned I was going to let him have guitar lessons from September and they said they would see if they could provide some support to help me with them. It would be fantastic if they could but I had already factored into my budget the cost and I’ll be letting him have them anyway. It will be good for his concentration and sense of achievement and he loves music and singing, and Bryan Adams :D

Been thinking I should try and do more swag bucks to try and get more mr Marks and Sparks vouchers towards school trousers and shoes; I have £15 already. Just been reading about Prolific which I might investigate further but I don’t have a Paypal account and I believe that’s the only payout method.

Shopping day tomorrow so hoping to come in under budget and maybe have a bit of change for my sealed pot.

Prolific will cash out to an app called Circle (like PayPal) it's fee free at anything over £20. I have the app purely for PA payouts.

Thanks Wishing. I’m a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to technology but mainly because I just won’t use it so in my circumstances I’d rather have the money in the bank, or off the mortgage. I don’t have a smartphone, I’ve got a pay as go phone that gets about £5 added every couple of months and that’s really just for if school need to get in touch. I mainly use my iPad so I’ll investigate the Circle app for that.

Been shopping this morning and came in at £22 exactly. Was aiming for £20 but did buy a few bits off list, naughty me! Got a tub of ice cream and some cones so we can have our own ice creams when it’s warm, although today I’ve got 3 layers on as I refuse to put the heating on; it’s May allegedly  Got some cream crackers and those chocolate covered teacakes for my son’s snacks/suppers as well.

Off to clean the house now in the hope of warming up! :)

The Circle app is good. I should think you can get it onto your Ipad. Once the money is in your circle account you can cash out direct to your bank account. The surveys on Prolific are really well paid. I cashed out £22 a few days ago and I'm already back up to £2.50.

Thanks Kat78MFW, I’ll have an investigation tonight when the boy is in bed.
