Flights cancelled - non refundable hotel - what can I do? 16th Apr 19 at 12:49 PM
    Hello,

We had booked to go on a 3 week holiday to India in August and our flights were cancelled last week.

Due to the short turnaround we can no longer afford to go and have cancelled all our accommodation through expedia and received full refunds.

We did however book a non refundable hotel in Agra directly through the Hilton. (They didn't have the option for a refundable hotel).

My credit card are refusing to do anything as they are still honouring the booking (even though without the flights we can't go) what are our other options for trying to get the money back?

    Thanks in advance
    Nat

You may well have to write off the non-refundable hotel costs. One of the downsides of booking what are normally cheaper room rates is that they come with conditions, in this case no refund if you cancel or can no longer make the trip on a non-refundable room.

I don’t see a valid claim section 75 from your credit card company. The hotel has not done anything wrong and your room is still available for use.

As bradders1983 commented, travel insurance may be an option but this will depend on your policy conditions and coverage.

I take it that your flights are with Jet Airways: did you pay for them by credit card? If so, explore whether you have a claim against the airline (and hence against the credit card provider) for the lost hotel costs since your loss is a direct result of the airline's failure to honour its contract.

Have you spoke to Hilton and asked them to refund you? You might argue with them, that they can resell the rooms and might even get more for them now.
