    Dear All

My partner had an unplanned surgery 10 days back. The recovery time is a few weeks from such surgery and the GP has signed off sick for a few weeks.

We don't have close relatives in the UK and my partner's parents need to get a visa to come to the UK. They were desperate to see my partner after the surgery which is understandable. We have friends and neighbors but we did not want to burden them asking for help when I am busy at work, so we thought the best thing is for my partner to fly to parents and recover the last few weeks at their parents home abroad.

The HR wanted to have a return to work interview a few days before the new start date, which should have been ok to attend normally however my partner is due to fly back to the UK on that day. We tried postponing the date but not successful.

Should we tell HR that my partner has flown abroad to see her parents and hence cannot attend the appointment?

Should have checked with work first.

Change the flight and come back a day earlier.
