    Amex Platinum Cashback Query

Amex Platinum Cashback Query 12th Apr 19 at 2:03 PM
Before I go and ask Amex the question wondering if anybody here can help.

Background: I need to pay the balance on my honeymoon before beginning of September, I have all the cash saved so might as well maximise the rewards for doing so. I have never held and Amex (so eligible for intro offers) and the company accept Amex.

I am weighing up which one to apply for and wondering about the Amex Platinum (25 fee). It says 5% up to a max of 125 but am wondering is that the max cashback for the 3 months or the max intro cashback e.g. after spending 2.5K it reverts to 1%.

It’s 5% on the first 2500 spent (making it 125).

Thereafter it reverts to the standard rate.

If you get a referral then you can also gain 25 Cashback on your first 1 or more spend, thus making the card “free” for the first year

I'll need to check my deal again, opened 2016 - it was 5% on first 2500 up to 125 maximun in first three months.

The 1.25% for everything - except for 2.5% for one month only if you've spent over 10 grand in te previous 12 months of membership.

I don't think there has been any change since then.

More and more outlets now taking Amex- such as Aldi and Lidl.

Update - I called Amex, the Ts&Cs have changed since I joined, the above is no longer accurate.

    Still a good deal.

How much do you need to put through on your credit card? It might be beneficial to open who of the higher fee paying cards such as the British Airways Premium Plus which, if you spend 10,000 in a year, you get a 2-for-1 voucher when booking reward flights with British Airways. So for example, if you spend 10,000 on the card and use your voucher you could get two flights to the east coast of America free minus taxes
