Customer Service Charges added to quote 10th Nov 18 at 10:41 AM
    Is this normal practice, please?
Our (equivalent of buildings and contents) insurance is up for renewal with Towergate have they included in their quote a 10% customer service charge (of about 45).
We are residential boat dwellers so the number of companies we can use for getting quotations is more limited than for bricks and mortar dwellers, but I don't see a 'customer service charge' on my car insurance nor on my mum's homeowners policy.
    Many thanks

Towergate are specialist brokers and so need to make their own explicit charges in addition to those from the insurer. If you go direct to an insurer there will still be charges but these will be included in the figure given in their quote which may therefore be higher that the one provided by a broker.

I am a boat owner with Towergate and was very happy with the insurance cost dropping by 30% this year
