Need to renew passport (because less than 6 months) but want to go on holiday 7th Nov 18 at 11:41 AM
    Hi all

My passport will shortly have less than 6 months left on it. Therefore I need to send it away because I occasionally work in Khazakstan. So, I know when I get home I will have to send it away but within 3 weeks of it being away I am due to go on holiday. How long do passports take to turn around in instances like this?

    Regards

You can all argue the toss about where the OP is going but surely the logical solution here is for him to book an appointment at a Passport Office and get his new passport in his hand within 4 hours

Or, use one of the other Fast Track service listed on that page.

I was coming from the pov that provided they were going to somewhere they didn't need 6 months on the passport for the holiday then I'd wait until I got back until I renewed it, especially as now the unused part isn't added onto the new one.

This of course assumes that they have notice of when they're going away for work purposes

Thats not what the OP says

they say they occasionaly work in Kazakhstan and when they return from there they will be going on holiday within 3 weeks, no mention of going back to Kazakhstan..

    • so, it's time to send it off to renew... but that will leave them passportless for X time. If X is longer than 3 weeks, then they won't be able to go on holiday

I used the 4-hour service a couple of years ago and it was painless. The extra cost isn't that much when you consider it's for something you only do once every 10 years - and it's definitely cheaper than a cancelled holiday.
