    Hi everyone!


    It's been a LONG time since I last had a diary. A bit of back story for anyone that doesn't remember me. We had a little 2 up 2 down house we were paying off, then we ended up moving about a bit and living in rented whilst the house was (or wasn't for a long time) done up.


    We subsequently had two children and have since sold the house and are STILL in rented.


    However, we are hopefully today exchanging on our forever home. It's a bit scary because it's a big mortgage and we now have the two kids (and both have new careers) but hey, I'm sure you all understand that.


    I'm not going to go into too much financial stuff at this point (we still need to actually exchange). It's been a long journey to get here. We first found this house September 2017, it's the first and pretty much only house we've both agreed on. But we still had to sell our house. We had 4 or 5 buyers pull out of our house sale (I forget how many now). And subsequently had to pull out of buying our house due to no buyer for our house.


    However, we sold in September 2018 and we are literally waiting to hear from the mortgage provider a date for drawing down funds. Once we have that we can arrange the completion date and hopefully exchange today.


    We have the insurance in place, life assurance is ready to go and we are ready to rock and roll. The first 12 months the focus is going to be on paying down (hopefully off) debts and building up some savings and then the focus will turn to paying off the mortgage.


    We are sort of OPing on the mortgage what we planned anyway because it's a 19 year mortgage term rather than a 25 year term.


    So please join me on my journey and any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Oh and I just booked a mini break for the boys to Thomas Land. It's their spiritual home, they love it there.

    So since the start of the mortgage 31st October 2019 we've paid £3,234 off the capital. So that's an average of £808.50 per month off the capital. I can cope with that.


    Things have slowed down on the selling of things, we need to sort stuff now. But we've got quite a lot of stuff to charity shop and we've recycled lots of bits. The sofa is meant to be coming at the end of the month, but we've now had a bit of a change of plan and can't been here for the delivery date, so that's probably going to take longer now. Sob.


    The storms have caused damage to our roof, one of the roof tiles has been hit and broken by something. So we should probably have that investigated and fixed. No idea how much that will cost - just hope it's fairly straightforward.

    We found when my mum lives with us our electricity usage was really high (we have a smart monitor). Also got stung by a high water bill too.

    Fingers crossed the roof repairs aren't too costly and we get a break before they decide to name another storm. Surrounding areas in our part of the world were really hit by flooding and fallen trees yesterday.

    Yeah we were too. My immediate location was ok (we are high up) but the lower parts of the city and surrounding areas are all flooded really badly. The destruction is so bad.

    The annual council tax bill came yesterday. It’s now gone up too £172 pcm over 10 months.

    Boo. Still it’s better than the £315 we’ve had to pay the last couple of months because we had a debt after it took so long to get an accurate bill after moving in.

    Iíve not updated any of my figures. But this is way more important. After 4 months of sitting on two chairs...the sofa has come!

    Iím so happy. It really makes the house feel more homely. Itís given us a few more ideas for what we would like as well.

    Weíve also sorted a few more bits and pieces and got some more stuff into the loft. The garden table has been put up so we have somewhere to sit whilst the kids play now too.

    Still loads to do. But itís definitely getting there.

    Right figures are now all updated. Just waiting to find out exactly how much we own on the mortgage - should get the figure in 9 days. I can then update the MFiT-T5 challenge.


    Now we have the sofa we've identified some other bits that we'd like to buy for the living room - unit for the TV, some big storage shelving units x 2. Doubt we'll be able to buy it all at once, but we should all things being well be getting the deposit money back from the rental. We are currently undergoing dispute resolution to get it back.


    My mum's been ill for over a month so we've had no help with childcare, the boys have been ill and I've been and still am not 100%. Hubby is now also ill. So progress with everything has been super slow just lately.


    It's the Easter holidays for DS1 next week, but DS2 is in nursery so I'm going to work. Therefore DS1 is trying a holiday club (fingers crossed he copes ok). Myself and DS2 then finish for the holidays on Thursday, so I need to come up with an Easter plan to try and keep costs down.

    Friday, 12th - Toddler group coffee morning - £3, Lunch out and Food shopping - £13 for lunch DS2 has tonsillitis and has been quite ill so we stayed home. Saved £16 by not going out. £0
    Sat, 13th - Solo food shopping (no lunch to pay for) - kids in garden. - £5 (bought a movie for tomorrow)
    Sun, 14th - Movie and home play day - £0
    Mon, 15th - Soft Play - £11.50 + £3 drinks = £14.50
    Tues, 16th - Dentist - Free. Bought magazines £7.98
    Weds, 17th - Stayed at home (baking and movies) - £0
    Thurs, 18th - Hairdressers £14, Soft play £0, Lunch £10.75, Feet measured (both boys needed new shoes but I'm not counting that in holiday spends) = £24.75
    Fri, 19th - Off the cuff day trip to York Railway Museum (first family day out since Christmas - Family train ride £10, Drinks £15.40, Ice Cream £9.60, Car park/Entrance Donation £10 = £45
    Sat, 20th - Easter Baking £2
    Sun, 21st - Easter Egg hunt and play in the garden - Free
    Mon, 22nd - Egg rolling on the park - Free

    Total - Running total £99.23


    I found that in the last holidays not planning and doing very much is better for the boys. So I'm keeping it fairly home based with minimal trips out.

    Wonder if I can cover the whole week for less that £50. I'd be happy with less than £100, but £50 would be epic!

    Some general house keeping bits and bobs to take care of and some address changes that need to be made this week. We’ve been a bit slow on the uptake for a couple of them.

    1. Driving licence. - Done
    2. Halifax - boys accounts and credit card.
    3. Barclaycard.
    4. Car registration.
    5. Hubbys student loan.
    6. Loan.

    There’s probably a few other bits and pieces too.

    We need to fork out for a new mattress which is a tad depressing. I forgot how expensive they are. But our current one is approx 12 years old and we are starting to wake up with back issues. So needs must.

    Bonus. Just had an updated P60 from 2016 which indicates I’m owed £437 in tax back!

    Updated mortgage figure is in paid off £4,030 since the start of the mortgage. An average of £806 per month off the capital. Longer months meaning more interest paid...boo.

    I suspect I’m going to be a little off the pace for the 10K challenge I’ve set myself by a couple of hundred. But that’s ok.

    So Iíve already spent the tax Iím owed back. Just ordered a new mattress. But to contrast the spending, my rotary dryer is out and my washing is drying for free.

    Was meant to be taking the boys into town, but Iíve decided against it and stayed home. Free play at home day I think. I just donít have the energy for anything else.

    Eek. Looks like we have a property dispute with our next door neighbours.

    They’ve planted trees very close together all around their garden (over the last week) and 4 of them are within 2 metres of our property. That affects the insurance premiums and potentially future structural damage!

    So when they grown and it gets to 2-3pm the garden will be in shade.
    DH is ripping. The only thing we can do is hope they are reasonable when we talk to them about our concerns I guess.

    The light in our kitchen and utility room will be affected too.
