We have taken annual travel insurance for several years. It is renewed every late November.

We have a holiday booked for December 2018.

My wife is next of kin to, and has power of attorney for her Aunt, who has recently entered hospital. Her prognosis is not good. She is, I quote from the Consultant "unlikely to last until Christmas".

This may mean that she may die or be buried during the holiday period. There is a further complication in that the Insurance needs to be renewed between now an the holiday. That would mean we had pre-existing knowledge of Aunt's condition.

Should we cancel now and will we be able to claim? Knowledgeable advice would be very welcome.

No Insurer you approach for cover at renewal will cover claims due to this existing condition

So if this condition has just arisen and you want to cancel now because of it then see if your current insurer will pay the cancellation costs. No-one here can advise you whether or not to cancel. Depends to some extent whether or not your wife wants to be there at the end

Otherwise decide whether to proceed with the holiday without cancellation cover

(What does poa have to do with this??)
