TV programme recorder 12th Oct 18 at 7:24 PM
My mum wants to record tv programmes but doesn't have sky or internet, the TV programme recorder boxes that are only about £40 seem to need a usb stick to record onto, other boxes cost about £140 am I missing something?

The more expensive ones have a hard drive to record onto giving much more recording space.

    Possible option. https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/home-decor/freeview-recorder-hdr-1800t-320gb-refurbished.html

Another vote for Humax. I have two, both refurbished and have had them for years. Very useful users' forum too on AVForums.

Going back to the original question, we've all assumed that the OP is talking about Freeview, which seems a reasonable assumption.

In exploring the rest of his/her question, though, I would expect that a well-specified Humax (or other mainstream set-top box style device) will not just have a larger usable capacity than a USB-recorder, but is likely to be easier to use and to have a greater range of capabilities. In particular, a STB style machine is likely to have more than one tuner which would enable it to make multiple simultaneous recordings.

I'd also want to check that any cheap recorder had a decent EPG, easy to use menus, series link, etc. etc.
