    hide cortana/ windows 10 12th Oct 18 at 3:50 PM
    Hello,
I wish to hide Cortana search/icon. Acer One Cloudbook14, windows10. I have followed instructions provided by microsoft etc but am still unable to hide/remove. Can anyone offer assistance? Thanks, mrwmartin

PS I hid Cortana on Dell laptop using method provided by search, but the icons are different on Acer and I am struggling.

Did you reboot after reg edit? Apologies if it sounds obvious.

Classic shell.. Although did the latest update kill that?

Ive blocked windows 10 useless updates that are only there to prevent you blocking their services.

    Hello that,
Thanks for the information, but in the meantime I did a reset to factory. It has cleared Cortana but I have lost the photos I had stored.I stupidly didn't realise that would happen. The photos are important and I am trying desperateley to recover them, with no success!

Ooops, bad luck. always have a backup etc, read what to do and understand implications of actions first......but no point in pointing that out to you just at present! Bit of an own goal there. Maybe a lesson learned?

Best move just now would be to download and run Recuva see https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva

Safest way is by doing that on another PC and piggy back your hard drive to reduce risk of overwriting files (with the download and any other actions on your computer) but in your case you probably cannot do that! Do not use your computer for anything else until you have recovered files. So download to your Asus and off you go to recover whatever you can.

In windows 10 I do the following to disable Cortana,

    Right click on the taskbar
    Choose Search
    Choose Hidden

That should get rid of it.

Hope you get your photos back.

    Hello Peter999,
Thanks for reply. Yes, I have used that method previously on my Dell laptop and it works fine. However, it does not give that option on the Acer hence my struggle. I have hidden it mean times with a reset as above.I fear the photos are gone from computer forever as recovery proved negative.
My photo solution...... I have found some A4 print offs and I hope to take a picture of them and then transfer onto computer!
    Regards,
    mrwmartin

    Hello John9211,
Thanks for the reply but please see posts 11 + 12 above. That option is not available on my Acer, hence my query.

    mrwmartin
