Would You Go Out Without a Bank Card? 12th Oct 18 at 8:32 AM
Not really talking about going out to walk the dog or whatever but if going out to the cinema, garden centre, B&Q or travelling by public transport, would you go out without cash or a bank card?

Would you only have Google/Android/Apple/Samsung/Whatever Pay on your phone?

    I personally would not.
While contactless is great and is coming on leaps and bounds every week, not everywhere accepts it and I certainly wouldn't rely on being able to use it.

No. Having the means to get out of potentially dangerous situations (by taxi/train/going into a cafe etc) is one of the ways I keep myself safe. My mum always told me to keep enough money for a taxi home when I first started going out as a teenager, and now I'm in my 50's, I still follow that advice.

It'll also come in handy if I ever find that bargain pair of Louboutins in a charity shop!

Quite apart from the fact that I don't have Android Pay set up on my phone, I always have a bank card and a £10 note in my phone case so even if I went out with only my phone I would still have a card and cash with me.

No phone to pay with but no option in poll, am I really that far behind the times?

I got to the till in Lidl on Saturday and realised I'd not bought my wallet, no probs (after 5 seconds of panic) as I had my phone with 4 different cards on Apple Pay with me.

The way things are going this month I will probably get to pay day without using any cash at all this month.

Might not take it out on a night out as that usually involves not wearing a coat and i would be worried about losing it. I just take the money i need.

Depends on what I'm doing. If I need to nip up the road to buy some milk I'll now sometimes just go out with my Apple Watch - means I don't have to even wear a coat let alone carry a bag or try and squeeze things into the ridiculous pockets on ladies clothing.

If I am just going to pick something simple up like lunch etc then no I don't normally have a card. I only take my wallet places in winter when I have pockets in a jacket to put it in. So soon when it gets cold enough I will have pockets to carry a card in again.

I wouldn't even go out without plenty of cash, let alone a card. I lived through Storm Desmond cutting off our town's electric and mobile network for 3 days. Those without cash really struggled- couldn't even get a taxi once public transport had given up.

I'm not convinced about the security of card details stored on my phone. I don't even use contactless pay with a card. The money dribbles away quickly enough.

I don't think I would as it's a huge inconvenience if they don't accept, or if I realised I needed to pop somewhere else that doesn't accept.

My phone doesn't have the NFC feature to use Android Pay and, even if it did, I wouldn't use it, give me a card or cash any day.
