Contactless on London buses 14th Sep 18 at 11:38 AM
I am going to be in London for eight days and will only be using public transport for three journeys. Reading other posts and having the time I have decided to use buses. My question is, do all the buses have contactless option?

Yes, there is a yellow button in front of you as you get on which you touch the card against. All buses have these and you just touch in and don't touch out. If you use the tube you must also touch out. If you are travelling with other people, each person will need their own card.

    No (definitely).

There is a daily cap 6.80 in zone 1, so if 1 person does lots of journeys they will only be charged 6.80 (there are caps for all zones but I happen to know that one).

If a second person used the card then they might not be paying as it's all worked out on one persons journeys.

The bus drivers are watching and there is usually someone at the gates of the tube (not suggesting you were trying to get away with it, just saying it can't be done).

BTW on some buses (routemaster) there are machines in the middle and the back, so you can get on at any door, but some buses it's only the front.

Buses are a pleasant way to travel but can be very slow in peak times e.g. you can walk faster. The tube is still a bit hot on un-air conditioned lines.

Worth noting as well that you can change buses now and only be charged once (1.50), if you change within an hour. You could even make a quick return journey for the price of a single if you return within an hour of setting off.

"Make a journey using pay as you go (contactless or Oyster) on a bus or tram, and you can make unlimited bus and tram journeys for free within one hour of first touching in."

Also the fare cap for the day if you just use buses is 4.50.

In fact you can now make as many journeys as you want within an hour, and only be charged 1.50.
