    I ran a quote online with two details all of which are the same, the only difference is the name,
    Name 1 = Testname Vo
    Name 2 = My real name

    For some reason Testname gets a cheaper quote by 100 each time. I am very surprised that a name can add so much to a quote.

    The only thing I can assume is that when it hits on the credit report it increases the premium, but I know my credit report is excellent, low mortgage and low credit card debt. Where as testname won't have a credit report.

    When I amend the testname quote at LV's website with my real name it increases the premium to the quote I was given when I was using my real name plus an additional 2.

    I queried this with the member of staff at LV and there response was you need to use your real name and details else its fraud but couldn't answer why a made up name with same details the premium is more.

    Has anyone found this when creating quotes? Is there a logic of a name increasing a premium, so a twin with the name Dave would have a higher premium then a Matt.

    Always use full dummy details when playing with quotes - they have software designed to catch what they see is fraudulent applications (which you have made - you do always agree you are telling the truth when doing online quotes)

    I guess there could be other factors.

    For example, have you ever been an LV customer? They may be checking your name on their customer database, and have a policy of only giving a new customer discount (of 100) to people who have never been a customer before.


    Having said this, the Channel 4 Supershoppers program believe that online insurance quotes vary based on your name, email address, ethnicity etc...

    But I wonder how thorough their testing was. For example, did they delete cookies and change IP addresses and MAC addresses for each quote? Otherwise the insurance websites could have worked out that they were being interrogated, and therefore increased premiums.

    It may be paranoid, but if I do a dummy quote online I enter a false name with the same number of letters in the forename & surname as my actual details, as well as the forename & surname beginning and ending with the same letters as my real name.

    I've always had the same premium quoted as when inputting my actual details, FWIW.

    OP fund - 1859.60 (0)
    Emergency fund - 400.00
