Could I get finance for a new hearing system if I've just been accepted for mortgage? 6th Aug 18 at 7:17 PM
Hi guys not 100% sure if this is the right thread to post on but didn't know where to ask! So I've just been accepted for a mortgage with my partner and just waiting to get a move in date. We know that the house has old electric storage heaters and these need replaced (not immediately) but I'd like to do it sooner rather than later! The only way we could afford this is through applying for finance to pay it off over 2-5 years as we know it'll cost roughly 5k to do this. I would be keen to do it now if we Could, but I'm worried about applying for finance so soon after getting the mortgage. Is it possible to get accepted for another loan so soon after getting a mortgage accepted? I've read that general rule of thumb is to not apply for credit so close together and to give it maybe 6 months or so but it would be easier to install gch before moving all of our stuff in if they need access to pipes etc! Does anyone have advice?

Just apply for a couple of credit cards a few months after you move in - you can make do with what is there and maybe carry out the works next year.

Nothing wrong with electric storage heaters though, if you know the work and you know how to use them properly.

Is there gas in the property already?

How much of a mortgage deposit are you putting down? Can you do anything there (smaller deposit and more payments)? If not, wait a few months after moving in (you can hold off doing things like carpets/wallpaper until it's done), then you won't need to borrow so much either
