The tsunami warning Is now withdrawn, the epicenter was inland on Lombok island. Information on damage and casualties there is not yet available:

"Powerful quake rocks Indonesia's Lombok, Bali islands" - http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-indonesia-quake-tsunami/powerful-quake-rocks-indonesias-lombok-bali-islands-idUKKBN1KQ0EC

Only a week ago a magnitude 6.4 quake killed 14 people on Lombok and briefly stranded hundreds of hikers on the slopes of a volcano.

Tourists flee, widespread heavy damage and casualties. Strong aftershocks up to 6.2 are expected.

"Tourists flee Indonesia's Lombok island after quake kills 91" - http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-indonesia-quake/tourists-flee-indonesias-lombok-island-after-quake-kills-91-idUKKBN1KR07H

I decided not to go there last week, hearing that the fast ferries were not running because of rough weather. The villages where I stay are 'totally damaged', coms are down so I don't yet know of casualties.

This morning I visited Gili Trawangan, one of the three small resort islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, and unlike the mainland there was relatively little damage from the earthquakes. Repairs are already made or in the process, and many tourists are already there enjoying the excellent beaches, marine activities and nightlife etc. The fast boats from Bali have resumed regular service.

So don't hesitate to go ahead with any holiday plans already booked, or include a trip there for a few days during your stay in Bali, its quite a paradise. You will also be helping the recovery of the local economy and the many workers from the mainland whose homes and livelihoods were wrecked.
