Where to sell a used car? 4th Aug 18 at 6:35 PM
Looking for useful suggestions where my son can sell his car as he now has a new lease car. He has tried we 'buy any car' but they offered about a third of what the dealers are selling them for, he is hoping for something in between the two values. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Has he tried an ad on Autotrader? It sounds like he knows how much he wants for it.
    This space for hire.

How old is it? Is there any obvious reason why he doesn't want to sell it privately?

    Autotrader, gumtree, advert in supermarket.

Cash on collection, sold as seen.

Assuming it is under a couple of grand for the latter two.

About a third of cars advertised for sale, i assume its a low value car?

Thats to be expected, they have no idea on the genuine condition of the car and whether it has undeclared faults so deduct some money as a safety margin.
Then as a trade seller they need to offer a warranty to the new buyer, that could cost them because cars can break suddenly.

And then they need to make a profit after all expenses. So on a low value car that eats into what you think its worth and what they value it at.

    Ebay it.
Punctuation, Spelling and Grammar will be used sparingly. Due to rising costs of inflation.

My contribution to MSE. Other contributions will only be used if they cost me nothing.

Due to me being a tight git.

Autotrader is a nice site for selling use cars. You can also post it on ebay.

Ebay is best option I've found for lower value cars. 14.99 fixed price but if you're flexible with price then it should sell. Auctions seem to attract more timewasters that don't show up
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

eBay was useless in my experience - possibly just bad luck, but I was very thorough with the description and got nothing but timewasters. I gave up after the 4th listing and sold it to a local company that would collect.
