Skirts ok for women, shorts not ok for men... 27th Jul 18 at 4:15 PM
    Hi all,
Our company has recently amended its summer dress code; it states that dresses & skirts are ok, but shorts are not. Am wondering what people's feelings are about this in terms of possible sexual discrimination, i.e. the men HAVE to wear trousers whereas the women have a choice. To clarify, this is office based work, with no health & safety factors to consider.

It's a bit annoying, but then again, men still tend to get paid more than women, so you could say it's swings and roundabouts....

    Precisely.

Though personally I think management should say something like smart nearly knee length shorts.

I went out with a friend to a local hotel for a pot of tea and a gossip last week and there was a male restaurant staff member wearing a black skirt. It had box pleats, a bit like a kilt. He wore it with a white shirt, black shoes and socks. I was a bit surprised at first, then thought so what? As long as he is doing his job properly it didn't seem to matter, in that environment. I don't know that it would seem right in all work environments though.
