Heard if nit-picking and loss of sense if humour, though.

The first I heard of it was reading some posts in the World Cup Thread earlier.

Is it like after burners on an aircraft?

Some people take football far too seriously. Don't let the rude comments of one forum member upset you.

    It was a good joke.

Is it anything like the advance / retard lever for the ignition on my old BSA?

I was just genuinely puzzled that somebody thought that it was such a well known concept, much less that it applied to my joke.

This is where a time machine would be useful.
Know the result, then go back and bet on the outcome.
Of course, someone else could also go back and nobble one of the team's.
If that happened after you'd won your zillions, I suppose that you'd lose everything. What would happen if there was a long gap? Who or on what basis would your life experiences be based?

    Space-Time conundrum .... I'm going for a nap.

Now, see! I knew that reading all those Asimov books as a teenager/young adult would come in useful!

I've had a few drinks 'after time' back in the day. They used to be called lock-ins.
