    Weekly Flylady Thread 2nd July 2018 1st Jul 18 at 9:44 PM
    IT'S JULY ALREADY!!!

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Valli for last week's thread

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Talking of eBay I have just bought a designer bag I have been eying up for ages and its 85 quid which im too tight to spend for 25!!!! Said it had been used a couple of times, ermmmm its like brand new!
Was in such a foul mood (work related) ((doesn’t happen often)) that I didn’t enjoy the night away the horses like I should of, came home early, had the LO pasta blog and then ended up consoling myself with madeira cake and choc ice cream, which I felt that guilty about the last portion of choc ice cream I let melt and have chucked it! Whata woman

Tonight it’s the pork chop and roasted veg but im gunna take the dog out for a long wander, ifs super hot it is a long swim and a shorter walk – make some thing nice for tomorrows lunch seeing as thank goodness its Friday

I need to spot clean my living room carpet its doing my head in then I will do some of these

Thanks for the suggestions Ionafan & Kazwookie,

Ionafan- that may be the way to go.
Kazwookie - sadly it's a 6foot extending (up to 9foot) solid wood table in a 2 bed Victorian terrace, no where else
To put it (and we wouldn't have anywhere to eat if we did move it)

Update: the cellar is done, loads of space down there, still masses more I would get rid off, but it has to be the scrip drip approach with hubby.
Living room and kitchen are presentable for guest arriving in half an hour.
    Dining room is much better:
1 pile of stuff ready for Mum and dad to collect next week
1 pile of stuff ready for hubby to take to his job on Sunday
A couple of bits I think can go (tidily) into the cellar need to check with hubby
    Dining room table:
small pile of hubby gibble he needs to sort
Larger pile of my work stuff that needs a good sort before my trip tomorrow - will get that sorted shortly.
All the stuff that needs to go upstairs has gone upstairs.

    Still to do:
    Sort work stuff for tomorrow
    Tickle the bathroom
    Dry washing away
    Tickle Pickle's bedroom
    Sort out room post decorator
    Clear hallway upstairs.

See if I can find enough dirty stuff for a load of washing - cannot waste this lovely weather.

    Wish.

Wish, put all the excess gibble that isn't your responsibility in the cellar. When people ask where it is, you can ask them stop using the dining table as a dumping ground. They'll soon learn.

Lost a post, haven't got the energy to re-enter it. Things tidied, Kelpie flown, so he's now feeling cooler and smelling lovely, washing up to date and paperwork progressed. I'm getting there, just very slowly.

Trying to get back on track - been exhausted/in pain for the last 24 hours and got nothing done, but have managed to buy a bed today so at least will have a place to rest when I move!

Feel like there's still all the packing to do - everything looks like chaos.

Trying to get energy together to get started again!

If the laptop tells me one more time to Please Wait, I swear it will be out of the window.....and reboot number 3...all for a "quick" 30 minutes paperwork session.

Dancemum - happy birthday, but what a sad story. Send the scumbag to Kaz, these people deserve to be on the receiving end.

Wish - I moved everything off a table in the LR into a storage basket that was lying around looking for a purpose. As it was still there 3 months later, I presumed it was unwanted. Now apparently I was wrong, but nobody had noticed it, so that cut short shrift with me.

Zero flying here so far. Unless you count going to the PO on way home from work to get some stamps.

And ....I'm throwing the laptop out...

    I hate this effing job.

Just got home, only reason I didn't tell them to shove it and go home at 11 was that a nice person stopped me and told me to lock myself in the ladies.

It's Himself's fault I'm still stuck there. Because he 'can't' get a job to take the pressure off me.

Which means I get people playing Top Trumps with me - lightly fractured feet in your twenties beat chronic disease, bendy bones and acute injuries sustained on top. As do deceased distant relatives.

    I hate this job.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Morning all, need to fly big style this morning as away for the weekend, working this afternoon and not done a great deal all week. To be fair yesterday was my birthday, I was treated royally by a friend with flowers and lunch, then a student brought me in an individual strawberry tart with a candle on it so all in all a good day, as OH and DDs were both away I wasn't expecting anything. Planning to celebrate at the weekend.

Cleaned kitchen surfaces yesterday and tidied up part of the freezer, washing is up to date but not ironing (tour de France starts today so that will help). Some admin dealt with straight away rather than leaving until last minute (huge progress for me)

Slinky progress still happening very slowly but it is happening, reached my target yesterday, only an interim target but still going down. It has taken a month to lose 1 kg (2 lbs) but now I am there I can move onto the next target. I set my targets using kgs, st & lbs and BMI although monitor weight loss in kgs. My next target is to be under 10 st so need to lose 1.5 kgs, which should be quite doable. I am now convinced a huge part of weight management is in the mind as I go up and down until I eventually reach my target but generally once I reach it I don't go back up over it. So this is why I have now set a series of targets along the way. I actually don't have a final target. I am wanting to be fitter, reduce blood pressure, and ease aching joints etc. I know I will never have the body of a top model, never did and not bothered.

Sorry to have rambled on, but WM is on again, so off to shower and find clothes for the weekend.

Happy birthday for yesterday, Mademoiselle . Enjoy your weekend.

I seem to be doing less and less as the weeks go on. It's such a waste of the good weather, especially when only a few months ago it was impossible to open the windows without letting in an icy blast.

This morning I have done a wash load and pegged it up, and cleared the ironing pile. That will probably be about it for today, unless I can get motivated this evening to turn some of the allotment veg into meals. I've been winging it this week in a cba kind of way, and that makes me feel even more disorganised than usual.

I was out at a volunteering meeting last night. When I got home, DH miraculously had managed to make his pack up for today, but not anybody else's...apparently he didn't know what we might want. A bit like I don't know what he wants all the other days, but he gets what there is, and seems to eat it all.... 2 more packed lunches have been duly made.

Oh well, onwards and upwards. Have a good day everyone.

Today is youngest DS's birthday and I have a mamogram appt this afternoon so I wont be doing much today either.

Have managed to get on top of all of downstairs apart from one hotspot and have got the bathroom and 2/3rds of the main bedroom done so for my first week I am really happy with that.

Happy extended Birthday, Mademoiselle, and congratulations on you slinkiness

    So far I have
    - booked a table for a meal in September!!!
    - got rid of my ironing pile (one skirt )
    - taken Rosie for a fast walk before it got too hot - it was beautiful at 7.45, even in the direct sun
    - eaten breakfast with DH in the shady garden
    - given the little apple tree another can full of water: I have sunk a flowerpot into the earth so that the water goes direct to its roots
    S&S'd kitchen
    - checked bank account
    - found a stamp for a birthday card: have almost run out of the supply that I bought before the last-but-one price rise

    Today I must
    - ring the double glazing company about a misted unit and a sticky door
    - do 2.5 hours' work
    - S&S bathroom
    - collect my order from a little shop in a market town about 45 minutes' drive away
    - have lunch there with DD
    - on the way home visit a NT property which is only open 4 weekends a year, on Friday and Saturday
    - do some more work
    - take Rosie for another walk

Hope everyone has a good day, especially Jojo xx

Wow, feeling a bit stunned here. Someone has been bad mouthing me over something I havent actually done. I have been bending over backwards to help this person and somehow I have ended up having it all thrown back at me because they listened to some untrue gossip. Trying not to take it to heart but its really knocked me sideways.

So, weekend, time to put feet up. Quite a bit of washing to do and various bits of housework. No idea what else is planned.
