Travel insurance - will my insurance cover my laptop if it was bought by somebody else?

Hi there folks
Currently am trying to buy travel insurance for a trip to Costa Rica. I have my laptop with me and would like to have it covered. However the laptop was bought for me by someone else (my parents). So, considering (from what I have heard) that most insurance companies will ask you to provide proof of purchase and ownership of your belongings when you make a claim, would travel insurance cover my laptop?
Also if anyone has any recommendations for me about where to get cheap travel insurance from in general would be much appreciated. I have tried the standard comparethemarket.com, gocompare and the post office.
Thanks,
Raquel
