    Please can someone tell me what this plant is? I didn't plant it but started growing actively in the last 2 weeks or so.

    If the flowers look like this, then it is. The seed was probably dropped by a bird - this is more of a 'wild' variety of clematis rather than the more usual garden ones.

    I think you are spot on. Checked https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=783 and confirmed it.

    As can be seen below, when I carefully pulled it out, it had a large tuber.

    Never come across this plant before, so googled it..... OP, - all parts are poisonous.
