Place names spelt differently from how you say them 13th May 18 at 3:24 PM
Okay, inspired by the "Tatterdemalion" thread and the excellent (imo) All The Stations series on YouTube by Vicki Pipe and Geoff Marshall, how about we play a game to see who can come up with a list of place names that are spelt one way but pronounced another?

I'll start with examples from that thread:

    Leominster - pronounced Lemster
    Tough - pronounced Took

Always ask yourself one question: What would Gibbs do?

I live in the UK City of Culture 2021

I had to put mothballs in my wallet - the moths had learned the PINs to my cards...

    Greenwich: pronounced “Grinidge”
    Woolwich: pronounced “Woolidge”

But only if you live there!

    Balham: pronounced “Ballam”
    Streatham: pronounced “Stretem”

One never pronounces the “H” in Dollis Hill

    Tottenham: pronounced “Tottnem”

It’s like a foreign language sometimes!

Slough doesn't sound anything like "cough". One of them must be pronounced incorrectly!
