    Why 2 HSBC apps?

Why 2 HSBC apps? 9th May 18 at 9:55 PM
When i switched to HSBC they said i needed to download their app as part of the switching process (& log in) and they did it for me on my phone - downloading the app with the icon you see on the right here:

Now i've had a message recently saying this will need to be updated by such -&-such a date so i looked in the Apple Store to download it to my actual iTunes folder on my PC & that's when i saw another HSBC app that has better ratings.

Why the 2 apps? I assume they're pretty much the same?

You should use the hsbc UK mobile banking app and remove the other one. The uk app is the new one and it has a lot more features on it.

Do they still have the same annoying system of logging in? Once my 12 months is up & i get the remainder of that switch money i may jump ship because i think the HSBC online banking system is pretty prehistoric. It's not as bad as First Direct (same group i know) but it's one of the worst i've experienced.

I've just checked which one I'm using on Android, it's called 'HSBC mobile banking', 3.4* rating, can do all I need with both my UK and S'pore accounts. Seems to work well and good security with the secure keys.

I see another one available - 'HSBC UK Mobile Banking' with a rating of 2.7* and a litany of complaints - don't think I'll switch to that...

The app that says UK is for UK only. The other app lets you access HSBC accounts in other countries as well, if you have any.

Having made the switch i've found a problem - this new app doesn't generate you a log on code to access your accounts on a PC.

They told me the UK app was created as part of the "ring fencing" requirements. I suspect it was/is to give them the opportunity to sell the UK retail arm in the future if they want.

Btw, at point of switching, both apps let me generate logon codes? Cant speak for the non "UK" one now, but I used the UK one last week to generate a logon code.

Even the new hsbc app that can show accounts with other banks, is apple only. You'd think that they would've released the android version first, just to balance things out.

I have been using the HSBC (non-UK) app for some time now I haven't bothered to download the HSBC UK app

However I have just logged on and got a warning notice saying the HSBC app will be closing in seven days time click here to migrate to the new HSBC UK app

looks like we will all have to do that

migration is very easy you just enter your security key and it does it automatically
