High pitched noise/squeak sound made when letting foot off accelerator 9th May 18 at 8:16 PM
    Hi guys,

I have a Citroen c2, 05 model (if this helps).

Recently I have noticed a high pitch squeaking noise which seems to be coming from my exhaust area, every time I let off the accelerator.

The sound is more noticeable when I drive at low speed.

Does anyone have an idea of what this could be?

    Thanks

My Jazz has been doing this for years. I've mentioned the effect at service time but all anyone has done is to lubricate the clutch pedal which has no effect. I've decided that a heat shield attached to the engine tilts slightly and rubs against some part of the car as it happens over bumps and on overrun. Must look into it further.

    Okay thank you for that.
I THINK It only happens when I let off the accelerator, but NOT when I am changing gears.

Some exhausts have joints which are designed to move to allow the engine to move without breaking the exhaust. When they move they can squeak.
Find an empty car park and drive on and off the throttle in a low gear to identify where the noise is from.

Lots of cars have new noises in hot weather, mainly because the windows are open.

Could be the rubber hangers for the exhaust getting tired and allowing more movement of the exhaust combined with a loose heat shield.

The heat shields tend to be held on by metal push on discs that rust and fall off.

Randomly selected auction to show what I am referring to. VW ones also fit and tend to be available cheaper. Only tools required are a pair of plyers to pull the bits of the old one off.

Thank you. Yes I have done that and the noise does seem to come from around the exhaust area.
IRS a very short, high pitched squeak.
