Looking for a new laptop 8th May 18 at 6:47 PM
Does anyone know about laptops as my son who is 15 says his is slow he uses it to play games and do his homework but I don't think they are terribly graphic intensive so I don't want to buy a gaming laptop that would be very expensive,I have added a screen shot to show his specs from his laptop that he has at the moment so anyone in the know would know if it is in the dark ages and what make or model would be an improvement for him,and possibly where to buy and who makes a product that has a decent reputation at the moment he has an HP laptop which hasn't ever broken down,oh well I couldn't add he screenshot as I haven't gto a url for it that this site requests,I wouldn't want to pay any more thatn 500 and less if anyone has any ideas about place that do open box or refurb deals

A entry level gaming laptop is 600.
There is no point to buy something under 500 but cannot do everything he want.

The title is the actual advert from Crucial SSD. (No affiliation)

Let your son to install an SSD by himself.

Crucial MX500 250GB at 56.99 (No affiliation, but I think this model is the best cost/performance with longer 5 years warranty at the moment.)

Read other forum postings, which would be very helpful, I have posted the below as well.

Last 7-8 years CPU cost/performance is completely flat. No point to buy a brand new computer to increase the performance in general. Even you might need to replace current computer, you will find a great business class refurbish model at much much cheaper price. Many great knowledgeable MSE people will assist you here. No rush (Don't listen your son )

    Happy SSD computing

Without half decent GPU, you can't run the game properly.
SSD will help you to boot the PC faster, but it can't help when you can't run the game if you have got good GPU to start with

Thanks I'm a new member so it wont let me post the screen shot,I have tried but it says as a new member I can't add it,I have posted above what the spec is though,he is vague about the games he plays he says a lot of the games that he plays stutter quite a bit but he couldn't be bothered to go in to details of what they were, one game he did mention was one I paid for on steam wont work at all and that's called Black desert online,I would love to not spend 600 but if I have to I will,I suppose there are perils to buying second hand so I suppose it would have to be new or an open box refurb from a reputable manufacturer if you have any ideas
