This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Good morning everyone

The sun is just starting to come up and I think it is going to be a nice day today. I slept really well so I feel human finally. Thank you everyone for the lovely birthday wishes yesterday, I had such a great day and got really spoilt . I had lots of friends and family pop in to see me and my lovely cmht lady took me out. We went to Brewer's Fayre and instead of something sweet, we decided to share a few starters of chicken goujons, loaded wedges and cheese tart. It was delicious and my lady said she wished work could be like that every day .

I bought myself the soundtrack from 'the Greatest Showman' and have been playing it constantly since. I haven't seen the film but have ordered it to be delivered when it comes out. I can't wait, the music is amazing and I have been singing along. I love musicals and I think this one ticks all the boxes.

I don't know what to make for tea yet, I am going to have to go and dig around in the freezer for inspiration. I'm thinking something chickeny and we have loads of veg to use up as well. Maybe a traybake type thing, hmmm I'm just thinking aloud now .

Holly, thanks for starting us off. I hope you get some reassurance from the doctor today and you get to have your walk in the park xx

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light breezy wet underfoot with more laying water and it's still raining again.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, sausages, mash, carrots, peas, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO yorkshires and gravy, ice cream for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be having as this afternoon I have to empty my fridge freezer as the replacement comes tomorrow and the existing one needs to be emptied and switched off, I have the small electric cooler already running in the dining room so will need to put the essentials in there and then MIL has a spare freezer that I'm going to fill from the freezer - hoping there's enough room between hers and my other freezer outside, fridge space is the issue as very limited, but it's only until tomorrow. I will be food shopping first thing Saturday morning, not ideal but new fridge/freezer should be in situ and working by then.

Work yesterday was another manic one, phones were ringing off the hooks, and the calls were stacked all day - but it did seem to improve in the last half hour but so many people saying they had been trying since Monday to get through being held up to an hour, or being held for 30-40 mins then being cut off etc! So they are not happy before they speak to us, can't blame them really. On days' off now.

    So on to today -
I have a nail appointment this morning, so I'll be going into town to visit the bank and building society just before going for my nails appt. I have several jobs to do in the bank as I need to move some money about but shouldn't take long I'll have it all ready so it can just be moved from one a/c to another.

I'll need to crack on with the washing, drying and ironing, housework needs doing too.

Have a list, will just work through it - what doesn't get done today can wait until tomorrow as at present delivery slot is 7am to 7pm - they'll let me know a 3 hour slot later today - so I'm told anyway!

    Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. I hope your drs appointment proves helpful. It's foggy and miserable here and I am looking forward to the forecasted heatwave next week!! Well one can hope!

You don't want to know what the lounge looks like now with the entire contents of the kitchen piled up. I have the fridge beside me with the mw on top and the kettle on top of that! I shall be leaving the blinds closed when we go in case someone looks in the window and thinks we live like this all the time!

The cases are packed for our little trip. Taxi to station about 11.30 and will shortly be packing a picnic for the journey. DD called yesterday with the 2 youngest DGDs. She showed us some photos of "Margot" in her stage make up - talk about looking grown up and she's only 9! She is all excited and has loved every minute of the rehearsals. Not so DD who is shattered with all the too-ing and fro-ing! There are 3 performances and we are going to the Sat evening one.

Mr TA far from well but he is adamant he is fit to go. I suspect he will spend a lot of time relaxing in the bedroom whilst we are out and about and just join us for meals. I got the result of my blood tests and x ray yesterday - I'll live for now but keep taking the tablets as the saying goes!

Porridge left out for breakfast and then must do a quick wipe round in the bathroom and vac up loads more bits. I'll be vaccing wallpaper bits up forever. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want. Take care and I'll be back with you after the w/end. xx

    Morning all,

What a wet and miserable day it is today. Cold too. Hope your all warmer than me and I'm still in bed. The heating has just come on so I'll wait till it warms the house up before I get up.

I slept well, the hounds slept well which is important as when they shuffle about I wake up too.

Trying to talk Youngest out of buying a second car...No it's not going in the garden and there's not enough room outside the house. He will need his own place at some point and although I'm in no rush for him to leave, I don't want to be cleaning up after him forever.

All quiet on the home front...just how I like it.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all.

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey. Sad to read that you had another poor night and I hope that your visit to the doctor will be helpful.

TA and nmlc, I don't envy the disruption but hopefully all will be sorted soon. When you come back TA you may find it easier to get rid of the stray tiny wallpaper scrapings, once they have dried out.

I had an odd day yesterday, starting with dropping a full half litre bottle of shampoo on my foot ( ow ow ow ) and then dropping my milk at work. It stayed sealed but when I put some in my tea, it had gone sour. I had to stand on a hill at 5 waiting for a bus that didn't come, half an hour in the rain and wind. At least I got sat on by a small and friendly Jack Russell terrier, that was my best bit.

I'm hoping for a day without incident today famous last words.

I've been having some migraine visual disturbances for a few days and now the headache has arrived. I am ok, I know people who have pulverising migraines and mine are nowhere as bad but still uncomfortable and oddly unsettling.

I need to eat something, get in the shower and get my arris out the door and off to work. Last day of the week for me. Dentist tomorrow, I've lost a temporary filling and fortunately tomorrow the proper one is to be done.

I have reached the stage at work where I'm just concentrating on getting everything done now, not long to go.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning

    What a grey day
Did a "Holly" this morning and was awake just after 4 lots on my mind atm with the op being cancelled so I suspect its that. Went to bed at 10 so not too bad time wise really. See you are waking even earlier though Holly so hoping the trip to the GPs will put your mind a little bit at rest

Asda due to turn up any time in the next hour so will need to get that sorted. Haven't had a delivery for a while as I wasn't making the £40 minimum but I have friends for the weekend so needed extra stuff.

Lots of work to do today to prep for the up and coming events have a couple of Masterchefs to catch up on too so will attempt to combine the two.

Had some of the Indian left overs last night ....Tandoori mixed grill and nan breads ...was lip smackingly lush and there is still a portion left which is in the freezer so a tenner for the meal has become a real bargain will do that again Today I could do with eating a massive pile of veg and potatoes as I seem to have built a mountain up.

Have a good trip Mr and Mrs TA
    AOD ouch ...poor foot

    Have a good day all

    Good morning folks.

I've been sitting in bed watching the sea fret rise and the sun trying to burn off the clouds. Yesterday was a lovely day and I'm hopeful for another one today.

The chocolate cake I made yesterday needs to be filled and decorated this morning before I go down to DM's. A little bit of online banking has to be done too but that's about all for today.

    Happy Thursday to all.

    Morning All

Dry this morning but a bit gloomy, I was hoping to put some washing out but we'll see.

Have a good trip TA, enjoy the performance.
Sounds like you had a good day dumpling.

Yesterday's funeral was very sad, the 7 year old grandson of our janitor. I was pleased to see a good turnout from school even though it is the holidays.

DD bought the bed from Ikea and we put it together no problem, the room is now finished and I even managed to put up a curtain pole which is at the far limit of my DIY abilities. It looks lovely, let's see if they can keep it tidy!

Nothing much planned for today, hoping to do some gardening if the weather stays ok.

    Enjoy Thursday, take care. XX

Thanks for the thread Holly, I hope things improve for you soon. Belated birthday wishes Dumpling, hugs to all those in need.
Same old same old here, damp, drizzly, overcast, no sun going to the solar panels so not enough power in the batteries.
Hopefully we'll get a lie in tomorrow as 5:30 is too early for me until we see some sun.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

    Firstly a belated birthday Dumpling!

Last night I played football for the first time in a while and my knee flared up again. So I may take some further time off. Tonight is a delayed date night with my gran. So I'll zoom to hers straight from work and no doubt the table will be set and there will be a 3 course meal lined up.

HH - Hope the doc's goes ok today.
TA - Enjoy your trip Safe travels.
Judi - Have I missed something, why does he need a 2nd car?

    Morning everyone,

Boy is it misty out there, looks more like a November day than an April one, like TA I am hoping we do get the warmer weather next week.

Need to get out for some fresh bits and pieces this morning, we are going through a lot of fresh veg and salad etc being on the BSD, although I couldn’t face a bowl of salad last night and ended up defrosting the last of the turkey broth from Christmas, was yummy but could have done with some croutons

Other than that not a lot planned, will go and see the lovely Lu of course.

AOD ouch on the foot another migraine sufferer here although they are not nearly so frequent now I’m no longer staring at a computer screen 8 hours a day, feel better soon.
Glad you enjoyed your birthday Dumpling
Hugs to Holly hope the doc visit is a positive one.

Have a good day folks x

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Holly, hope the Drs appointment goes ok.

I was awake twice in the night, loo visit at 2am and then tablets at 4am, decided to read for a while till they took effect, so book down just after 5am.

My throat is no better so obviously not a cold, some sort of throat infection so have made an appointment for tomorrow. I could have gone down and sat at the walk in surgery, but it will be full of people coughing and snuffling, so will keep taking the pills and go tomorrow.

OH's eye is improving, it has not been gummed up since the weekend and he no longer needs to wear his eye patch at night, just the drops in 4 times a day. He says the sight in that eye is so much clearer, so thats good.

Another horrid day, dank and dark, not sure if its raining.

Part of the floor in the wet room cupboard has dried out, its going to take a while for the rest of it, so just now we are having strip washes.

I am going to do the cheese pie for supper tonight with mixed veg, we are almost out of fresh fruit, I have some frozen rasps so raspberries in jelly, should last us a couple of days at least.

Got roast pork for dinner tonight its not often we get chance to have one so I am really looking forward to it, I will get the prep done after this, will do some roasted onions too as I love those.

Will have a quick tidy round this morning but the deep clean can wait till Saturday when everyone can help.

I sent the builders quote off to the insurance company last night re the kitchen so we should hear back within a day or two.

TA hope you have a nice break x

    Morning All
Hugs and spoons to those in need.

Another grey and dull day here, beginning to think spring is never going to spring. Birds are wide awake and active at silly o clock so it must be on the way.

a sleepless night worrying about things I have no control over so bit ike a wet week this morning.

Farrier was supposed to come to shoe Scooby mare today, but has just rung to say he's run out of gas and cant get some until tomorrow. Not happy so I have asked him to come and put a nail in so she doesn't lose the front one which is likely to be sucked off in the mud that passes for the field atm. Another morning wasted hanging about for someone else to arrive.
DS on pins as had interview for job last week and they said he would hear by the end of this. Nothing yet. Got another interview somewhere else next week, and has just applied for more. At least he is back to work next week for the next 3 weeks. Downside of being an employee of a university on pro rata rates, only works when students are there.

Might wake comatose Labrador up and take her for a walk, there again what's the saying about sleeping dogs. Bet if I open the biscuit tin/cupboard/etc it will be there in a nanosecond.

    Bye for now

The sun is now shining so the washing can go out when it has finished its thing. I've just walked down to Iceland to get yogurts, the 3 for £1 offer was better than a pack of 6 for £2.75 - good job I'm on the ball!

    Hi everyone
I got home from Majorca yesterday. I stayed in a little place called Can Pastilla just about 10 minutes bus ride into Palma. The weather was good, though it did get a bit breezy at times. Temperature was on a par with an English summer...on a good day! I had a lovely relaxing time - read my book in the sunshine, went to Palma a couple of times - it's a beautiful city and to visit a small town called Soller. Also ate lots of delicious food. I would definitely go again next Easter - I found the temperature just right.
Been to Asda for some bits this morning and need to go out again soon as I managed to get a doctor's appointment - I'm not ill just to discuss some tablets I've been taking. Then I'll go and see my mum and dad and have tea there.
Our 2 cats had been fine at the cattery - neither of them would come to me for a stroke last night but hid upstairs. We had an awful struggle to get them in their boxes when they were picked up - both myself and DD got deep scratches but apparently they just walked straight in when it was time to come home! Eldest cat was so desperate to escape when they were going that he crashed into the locked cat flap - splitting the plastic door! A new one has been ordered this morning.

    Afternoon all,
Had a bit of a lie in this morning as window man had an emergency fitting of french doors that had been damaged in a break -in about 7 miles from us. Poor people were scared that the perpetrators would come back to finish the job tonight . So it's the kitchen and pantry today and everything is in the wrong place. Some lounge stuff in the dining room along with some kitchen stuff and the rest if the kitchen/pantry stuff in the lounge. I will be glad to put things back where they belong but the man will be here at least till Monday. I hate it when everything seem to be in a pickle . But I will have to get rid of the layer of dust that's seems to be everywhere and I've given up trying to keep on top of it!
Just had another call from Joan, thought someone was breaking into her house. That's the third time this week we have told her he's in our house. So sad to see a spirited and energetic woman ( she was still playing lawn bowls 3 years ago at 90 ) get into such an awful state.
We spent yesterday evening stripping wallpaper from around the patio doors, in readiness for the plasterer to come on Friday. Luckily I still have a spare roll of wallpaper that I can match, now if I can only remember the paint colour too . We will have to get some match pots this weekend and then it will be trial and error.
We managed to get to our local one stop shop for a top up of bread, milk and biscuits earlier, so I don't need anything else for now, as I made sure the freezers were full. We will have hot dogs for tea and maybe some cake for pudding ( which fell into my basket this morning , not HM sorry Os'ers )
I'll be glad to get back to my normal routine as the diet and timings of meals has gone to pot . ( Along with the rest of me )
Hope everyone is having a good Thursday.
TA enjoy your trip. Think you'll need another break after the kitchen refit . I don't envy the upheaval as this has been bad enough.
Nelski that photo.... do you want the whole man or just the legs/shorts ?
Holly how did you get on at the doctors ? I hope she can put your mind at rest.
AOD and Speky Ouch ! Hope everything is ok.
Csarina I hope your throat clears up soon.
Camelot it's unbelievably sad that someone so young has passed. I can't imagine the sorrow of the family involved.
dp1 hope you had a lovely time. Couldn't you have brought some better weather home too in your suitcase ?
Ok I'm off to put the kettle on as window man is ready for coffee and biscuits, good job I've got a food handling certificate .
I shall send out the Sandman to the sleepless, healing thoughts to the poorly and hugs to anyone who is in need. Take care all.
    nan xx
