Private Van Insurance 11th Apr 18 at 9:03 PM
Hi, I'm new to the forum so just hoping for some pointers about private van insurance. Can anyone recommend a good insurance company that offers reasonable premiums for private van insurance. I'm doing online comparisons for a member of my family and I don't understand why the premium is so much higher now that he has changed his 4 seater car for a 2 seater van. He's not using the van for any commercial use - purely social, domestic and commuting to his place of work. All the conditions remain the same as when he had the car (e.g. same address, mileage etc.) so to my mind, he's the same level of risk to the insurance company so the jump in premiums seems crazy. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Will keep on looking but it's not looking promising. A colleague who used to work in insurance has suggested i go to a broker as they may have a better idea of providers who don't consider all van drivers high risk. Will up date the thread if I get anywhere with the search. Good luck with your search.

He doesn't use it at all to do with his business? So he drives a van as a car? Doesn't keep any tools? Doesn't take anything to any Jobs?

    What is his occupation.

He works in the maintenance team for a council. He drives work vans all the time but this is his first van so he has 0 no claims discount.

In 5 years time it will be much cheaper then (in theory)

But the insurer will think why would someone want a van to commute to work and for private use?

What would his answer be i wonder?
Punctuation, Spelling and Grammar will be used sparingly. Due to rising costs of inflation.

We converted a van into a motor home and found Adrian Flux useful to insure vehicles that other people wont take. The big red flag may be commute to work. They are worried you will use it for work.

We insured social domestic and pleasure only as I didn't need it to commute.
