MSE Cheap Energy Club - the suppliers/tariffs they DON'T want you to know about 11th Apr 18 at 3:15 PM
Seeing as it is not just me that has noticed that contrary to MSE claims that their Cheap Energy Club compares ALL the market, I thought we could start a list of the suppliers and/or tariffs MSE appear not to want to tell you about.

I'll start with a couple I've mentioned elsewhere, but feel free to add any more you uncover
You may find them listed on other comparison sites, such as Energylinx, Energyhelpline, etc ... or simply become aware of them.

Utility Point - it seems MSE ignores this supplier entirely.

Brilliant Energy - MSE lists some of their tariffs, but appears to ignore many of the recent ones (arguably aimed at low - medium users) such as Fair Deal Gas 3.5, Fair Deal Gas 3.5b, Fair Deal Gas 3.7 & Fair Deal Gas 3.7b

Utilita Energy - Apparently, MSE admit to not listing this supplier because of their "unusual tariff structure" meaning they are "not currently able to calculate the costs of its tariffs"

So they suggest you use an alternative Ofgem accredited comparison site, who presumably can do the mathematics...

MSE do not calculate the prices correctly for Powershop so they do not appear in the correct place in your results.

The MSE comparisons are the same as USwitch - and they are rubbish.

I spread sheet actual usage comparing our costs with British Gas and the actual tariff from the top few 'biggest savings' in the comparison results.
I could not get over HALF what they quoted, then add the fact we get a Warm Home Discount and they don't and our savings were less than 3 figures - the max being 80 per year - a quarter of the savings quoted.

If you use x kWh of either gas or electric pa, there is no way of knowing how much of this will be used each month. Assuming you have gas heating, then electricity would be quite accurate, but there is no way you could work out your monthly gas usage.

I notice when Utilita give you a quote, they just divide your annual usage by 12. Not a very good mathematical model.
