Ryanair Airport Change?! 14th Mar 18 at 10:23 AM
We are due to fly to Madrid on Friday morning at 06:45. I got an email from Ryanair this morning changing the airport from Luton to Stansted?

    Is this allowed?

We hadn't actually booked airport parking luckily but had we surely they would have had to reimburse us?

what was your original flight number? (I can't find any info on Ryanair offering a Luton-Madrid flight either on the Luton Airport or Madrid airports wikipedia page)

It was originally FR2682 still same flight number. What is odd is that even on all the emails it has changed to Stansted,

FR2682 is a 06:45 departure from Stansted to Madrid...it certainly has been for the last few months
There does not appear to be any record I can find of Ryanair operating flights from Luton to Madrid in the past and cannot book on their website for that route for any date (says they don't fly the route)....I wonder whether they had planned to start the route and it didn't happen or whether the Luton reference was an error (Easyjet operate Luton to Madrid)

I must admit I thought the same thing but I got a google and Ryanair notification telling me that the airport had changed. Not an email but through the app.

I wonder whether there was an error at the start when it said Luton and only got updated now?

If your flight number has not changed, I suspect you were always booked on a flight from Stansted. I wondered if it was going to be a new route that they have maybe delayed/cancelled but they would not normally use existing flight numbers for that...how did you book it? - luton to madrid is not accepted on their website

That doesn't say that it's changed from Luton though, unless that's what's revealed when you "slide for more".

To be fair nothing was revealed in the slide for more bit. If there is a location change it can only be departure airport.

All very odd if I!!!8217;m honest as I know I had booked Luton.

    All very strange.

Did you actually book on the Ryanair.com website or was this via another booking site or initially via a search engine like Skyscanner.net?

Whilst on the Ryanair site I can not see how the initial routing could have been selected, if on a search engine you could have entered parameters of LTN/MAD and left the !!!8216;include nearby airports!!!8217; box ticked. Returned results may have given STN departures and you possibly clicked thru and completed the booking without noticing the departure airport was Stansted.

Either way, good job you noticed in advance of your departure day.

That notification is from your iPhone calendar. It will have been triggered by an email from Ryanair, as iOS Calendar monitors incoming emails and will update events. Ryanair send a number of emails in the week leading upto your flight, reminding you to check in, trying to get you to buy extras etc.

Ive had a few similar notifications from my phone updated event; triggered by a Ryanair email - updating times and locations. In reality is just changing the format of the calendar entry - nothing had actually changed.

What does your original booking confirmation from Ryanair say? As another poster said, emails can not change retrospectively, so if your original booking says Stansted then thats what you booked. Is it possible you thought youd booked Luton but in fact didn? Ryanair dont operate Luton-Madrid.

For example if you thought youd booked Luton and created the event in your calendar with Luton, then the iPhone has just updated the event itself based on an email from Ryanair. Or the original calendar entry may have been created automatically by the phone and not included departure airport at all, maybe just Flight FRxxxx to Madrid and it has now added the departure airport.
