Bereavement Support Payment and ESA 14th Mar 18 at 12:04 AM
I currently receive ESA (Contributions based). I'm about to claim Bereavement Support Payment following the death of my wife.

Can anyone tell me if/how Bereavement Support Payment will affect my entitlement to ESA?

    Thanks.

    Sorry for your loss.

As stated here, it's ignored for income when working out entitlement to other benefits. See this link.

    Many thanks.

My confusion was caused by this https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-payment/further-information - although I note that it says 'can' not 'will'.

It would certainly be counterintuitive if only those in receipt of benefits had their incomes diminished.
