Electrics keep blowing 13th Mar 18 at 3:53 PM
    Hi
Looking for any help or advice the toaster (previously had same problem with kettle) suddenly started to blow all the electrics, tried it in several sockets, as soon as turned on blew everything. On the MCB the main switch was off but all the others were still on, tried turning individual switches off but only when I turned everything off and turned main switch on and then all others back on did we restore power.
Bought new toaster (month ago) and today it blows power on one pair of sockets but not on another socket in kitchen same routine required to restore power.
Any ideas what the problem could be Thanks

When you say main switch, the one that blows, is that the RCD switch ? Looks like this:

At a guess, I'd say...original toaster had developed a fault and/or one of your double sockets has a fault/is damaged.

You've replaced the toaster, but one of your sockets still has a problem.

If it were me I'd check the connections on the back of the socket but if you don't know what you're doing get an electrician in to investigate.

    Thanks for your replies
Stator - yes the switch that blows is the RCD

The sockets are not on an external wall

As for the sockets being faulty - we have tried other appliances (electric toothbrush, kettle ) all work fine and we had exactly the same problem with a kettle that we had to replace.

It may be that the other appliances you have tested are 'double insulated' Class II products that don't use the Earth connection, and that is why you see no fault with them. A toaster would be Class I, needing an Earth.

You need the sockets testing properly.

I can guarantee you that it won't be a Class II kettle - it will unquestionably be Class I.
