Current Supplier overcharging? 12th Mar 18 at 8:50 PM
    Hi,

The company that I switched to had cheap rates upon joining according to their website.

My monthly metered bill is extremely high. Highest I have ever been billed.

I have compared my current rate against my contract and I am being overcharged by quite an amount.

    Contract Amount

    Electric:
    S/C: 20.02
    Rate: 13.10

    Gas:
    S/C: 19.43
    Rate: 3.08

    But, I am being charged:

    Electric:
    S/C: 21.01
    Rate: 14.86

    Gas
    S/C: 18.25
    Rate: 3.39

I am a very low gas user.

Last years totals: - Different supplier. - I switched on 26/12.

    5000 (just under) - Electric
    500 - Gas

Should I complain and switch again, or just suck it up?

Since Christmas, I have spent just shy of 500 on energy for one person. My WHD was denied.

Last bill from the old supplier: 143.3

Total bill from the new supplier (04/01/2018-05/03/2018): 471.99

Total Bill in three months: 615.29

Total Usage with the new supplier

    Electric: 1069
Gas: 195 according to their bill

They seem to choose between the actual meter reading which I supply monthly and estimated meter readings at their convenience.

Can I switch and then complain and try to recover my overcharged bill?

    * Edit: I am thinking of switching to Outfox the market.

    Electric
    S/C: 0
    Rate: 10.72

    Gas
    S/C: 0
    Rate: 3.27

    Membership: 13.99/mo x 12 / 365 0.45 a day or 167.88/yr.

    Gas - Low User
    Electric - Very High User

I am hoping the "membership" cost can float up and down dependant on your monthly usage. Does anyone know?

    Thank you

Billing is based on actual meter readings. Bills raised on estimates are just a best guess. Provide your supplier with actual meter readings, and they will normally re-calculate your bill.

A contract is a contract. Before complaining though you need to check whether the standing charges and unit prices include VAT at 5%. Most suppliers do not include VAT in their quoted prices but then add it to the final bill. Most price comparison websites include VAT in the prices shown on the site. Your contract prices will be in the Welcome Pack that you received from the supplier: this will also include details of any membership fee (confused if you are paying standing charges).

The membership fee is on another supplier. As I am looking to switch again.

Although Spark Energy seems to be much cheaper.

    Electric rate: 3.10p
    Gas rate: 3.85p

S/CTotal for a year: 147.56 and they are in the WHD scheme.
