BA shrinking seats 7th Mar 18 at 2:24 PM
The 777 Gatwick fleet is going to be 'upgraded', and they will squeeze another seat in each row. Another reason not to book BA!! Are they deliberately trying to lose passengers?

Most people don't care, they'll book whatever is the cheapest option.

    From the article :-

This is common across the industry, on airlines including Air New Zealand and Emirates.

I must admit that all the 777s i have been on have been 10 across.

Another reason not to book BA!
And book one of the countless other airlines that offer 10-abreast on the Boeing 777? Or maybe a fancy new 787 - that has equally narrow seats.

Are they deliberately trying to lose passengers?
No. They are deliberately trying to match other airlines that are undercutting them and maintain their market share. Norwegian anyone? You may not like it, but it is where the industry has been going for a long time - cutting costs and frills. And while everyone will get hot and bothered over this news for a while - when they next book their holiday they'll book the cheapest ticket.

The market has shown for a couple decades that people want the cheapest ticket. You can try and maintain a "better" service, and charge a little more for that - some customers will even tell you thats what they want. But the reality is, if you do that, you become Monarch. And we know where that sad story ended.

There is a bright side - the BA 777s are tired and long overdue a cabin overhaul. It's the LGW fleet for now - but it'll come to LHR no doubt.
