I bought a pair of car brake disc's that have some sort of cut out in them so I was wondering if someone knew what they are for as I've never seen it before. The one cut out is not as long as the other one.

I would imagine the discs are placed on a lathe type machine and the incisions made until the correct balance is achieved.

When I read the thread title (before reading the thread) I thought this was going to be about ventilated disks.

I'm not surprised you're curious at that, I've never seen that before on brake discs and I would certainly have thought it was some kind of manufacturing defect until otherwise informed!

As for wear indicators, wouldn't they be the same?

I know. My point was that if the OP bought a pair of discs and the cut-outs they enquired about *were* wear indicators, then it would be reasonable to expect they would be the same as each other.
