£100 lost in 'money counter' v12 car hinckley 5th Mar 18 at 10:42 PM
so we went to buy a car
    took 1480 in cash
    counted before we left
    counted at the garage
the money was put in the money counter
it got jammed a few times
money was shuffled around and put back in
the process was repeated approx 4 times
    process complete total 1380??
we told v12 cars we gave them 1480
they responded saying it was impossible and there must have only been 1380
we asked them to check again they said its a sealed bag and gets emptied by group 4
where do we stand on this

The process was repeated four times, yet they can't get the money back? Something wrong with this tale...

    He said she said.

What proof can you provide that you paid the correct amount? E.g. Did you withdraw it from a bank account?

Has the machine actually been emptied yet?

So this woman who did our paperwork stole £100 cash
She has done it a few times before so the trust pilot reviews say.
Gonna try and contact another customer who this happened to

Where do I stand with this now.
    Gonna ring them today.
Iím wondering if the police would be interested in this. Or would I be better off with trading standards

I'd saved up a pile of 20p decided to exchange them for Euros, rang Asda post office, "yes bag them up into separate £10". Altogether there was £178, so just bagged up 17 bags each with £10, checked and double checked, 17 bags £10 =£170

Took them to post office handed over 17 bags, off she went to put them into the 'counting machine', came back with £150?? Sorry there were 17 bags it should be £170. She replied well that's all that was counted, so I asked to see all of the empty bags, 'oh sorry I cant show you them I automatically put them in a bin with all the rest of the empty bags', clear rip off but what can you say.

I blame myself for not counting the bags in front of her individually, instead of just handing them over in bulk through that tiny slot.

We counted the money on the desk in front of her. I checked the hundred piles was hundreds.
We had already counted it at home and put in an envelope

    I just canít believe it.

Not sure how it go about it.
Gonnatry trading standards first are what they say.

This doesn't make sense. You hand over cash, they count it in front of you. Once they have the money that's not your problem. At what point did the £100 go missing?

And why are you reading reviews after the fact?

WE counted the money. Then handed it over.
Then the woman who was doing the paperwork took my partner to the money counter. Thatís when they said there was only 1380 instead of 1480. Basically the woman must have pocketed a &100. Apparently this is not the first time this has happened there

Fuming. Citizens advice have said they will forward the details to trading standards as t sounds like a scam.

I donít think there is much they can do by the sounds of it.
Gonna ring them after work and see what they say about it

What denomination notes did you have?

This may not seem particularly helpful, but if I were paying "cash" of about £1500, I'd get 15 x £100 notes from the bank. You count it out - they count it out. 15 notes.

...and get it slung back at you because there are no £100 notes! And if you got £50 notes from back home they'd get looked at oddly too.

I agree with camelot71 - I would expect (insist) them to count it in front of you as a double-check to them watching you count it. Taking it away is accepting it in my book. I would have threatened to call the police before I left.

As for WillimS at the post office - every time I've handed over change to a PO, it was weighed not counted without them leaving the counter - coins have set weights.
